with the pioneer n1 and the eclipse avn5435/5495 units that are nav, CD, and DVD ready, can you listen to music while using the nav?

Don't know about Eclipse but N1 you can. You can do upto 3 things. Sencond Vedio out for rear can be watching DVD, front can be listening to XM or Stereo, while Nav is guiding you to your desitnation.
