Default Thoughts Audio experts on this setup??

I'm thinking of the using the following components in my 04 ZR

Alpine 9820xm
Focal 165k2p's
JL 300/4
subwoofer?

What do you guys think? I really want xm w/o all the ancillary pieces in my car as space is at a premium. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Don't worry about all the little pieces. They all fit very nicely in the compartment behind the driver seat. I also have a roadster and wanted to keep as much space as possible. I think I found the perfect compromise between sound and space. My trunk has a sub and 5ch. amp in it. Over the summer I'm going to set them into the spare tire well and will have my full trunk back. Don't worry about space too much. If you don't mind taking your spare tire out then you can put everything down there and keep all your trunk space.

ditto on the focals and jl combination.. subwoofer choice will effect your system a lot though, listen to subs everybody has a different taste, however if you are a focal/jl fan like me you should go with a focal or JL sub. I have 12w6v2 for now however if I wouldent have it I would probably get a focal sub too, when I listend to to it Jl seemed to hit harder however focal was very audible, smooth and clean on lower frequencies.

Looks good, what are planning on paying for the JL amp?

What kind of music do you listen to?

I listen to rock, classical, jazz, reggae, and country (only when wifey is in the car). What sub should I look at? Like Santacruz sez, a Focal? I don't know what I'm going to end up paying for JL but I've heard great things about it, heard it played and like it. You guys think I need 2 sets of 165k2p's as well or can the stock speakers be used to fill in? Santaruz, I will do the spare tire thing as well, like you intimate, why do you need the spare anyways? I don't. If it goes flat, call a flatbed.

dont bother with rear speakers. Im running a 3 way focal setup up front and the sound is amazing. Id get a JL 300/2 to power the front instead of the 300/4 if you are going to do just the front speakers. With your taste in music I'd go with a sub that has more SQ vs one that has more bass.

I like Diamond Audio subs Ive had the M5 and the Hex line and was very happy with them. Those lines are discontinued but I believe they have like a D6 line. Also check out Image Dynamics. Focal subs are very nice as well, i may swap out to a focal sub soon.

could always go with Vega. I love the hell out of mine and Ive had it for years.

If you really want to spend the cash you could go with a Stroker Pro, though you would have to get a box custom fit to use your entire freakin hatch space, those things need crazy airspace.

I recomment the Image Dynamics IDMAX 10" version 3
This is a very good sound quality subwoofer. $399 ea.

Another sq sub i like are the focal subs. This is what my friend
uses to compete.

Focal 33KX http://www.focal-america.com/catalog...ower/33kx.html

Keep in mind he'd probably want to use a much more powerful amp with an IDMAX 10''....I've seen quite a few people pair that with a JL 1000/1

I'll likely stick w/ Focal sub, 165k2p's up front only, possibly a 9835 h/u from Alpine, still unsure.

Man those phoenix gold are a steal, i wonder why their on sale at
sound domain. But specs looks good 200 x 2 to the front, 400 w bridged
to your focal sub. The 27kx can handle 300w rms - 600 max.

They are making a little over 10% on those amps. So yes a steal indeed.
