Default XBOX in the Z

I want to put an XBOX in the big compartment behind my passengers seat with a 7" Farenheit LCD in the dash space but I'm worried that there's no circulation in that space and the XBOX will overheat. Am I being paranoid? And on that same note, can the XBOX be damaged by all the freezing weather we get here in the winter months?

Also, where's the best place I can order a Farenheit T-7001MHR? I found some online for around $315, is that about right?

Thanks!

yeah, not too much air circulation in there. you can try under the passenger seat, but I think it should be safe in the glove box. And thats way too much for that screen, try ebay, can get one for under 300.

Any computer, which is what the XBOX is, does not have it's components insulated for condensation. The laser is also sensitive to cold temperature. The harddrive is also not of the shockproof kind.

wouldn't the people putting pc's into their Z's experience the same problems?

and how big of a problem will this be? am i looking at my XBOX experiencing problems in a few months or after several years?

is there anything practical i can do to improve the situation such as vents/fans and perhaps cushioning the XBOX? at the very least i'll take it out on the most extreme hot and cold days.

i originally just wanted to put a regular DVD player in my Z but with the XBOX i get a DVD player and a game console for just a little bit more in price. am i making the wrong decision?

help me out guys, please give me any feedback!

I've had mine in for a month now. No issues whatsoever.

It does get a little warm in the glovebox so I just leave it open a crack to help it vent. I'll eventually put in some kind of secondary ventilation system but for the amount of time it is on (longest run for me now is 2.5 hours) there shouldn't really be a problem.... unless, of course, you play 2 player for 6 hours straight...(2 player b/c the second player would have to be sitting in the passenger seat... can't have the seat forward and door open)

yes they will, in colder seasons the XBOX or computer as it cools when
it's powered down for the night, will remain hot and cool slowly, this will create a vacunm affect and any humidity in the car (heaters running as people eat or drink) will condensate on any object as it cools. It's all a matter of chance. Remember when windows fog up on the inside that's the signal the humidity is above 80%, computers like 55%. I like to know how those who have install computers (those designed for indoors) in their cars are handling the surging and spikes for the convertors.

i have had my (modded) xbox in that compartment for a month now, and a week was down in fl where it was hot as hell... and no trouble whatsoever , go for it, and some advice... wire the controller so that it can sit in the compartment between the seats.. u have to take out the cup holder, and use a dremel to cut a tiny hole to run the controller wire down to the passenger compartment... and then u won't see the controller wire... works perfect... and then run the video and audio wires from the xbox the same way up by the shifter,,, then fm modulate the audio. and plug video into the screen, i have my screen wired to my factory bose HU accessory and ground, so when i turn on the car, the screen turns on...

like i said, originally i just wanted to get a DVD player installed but since the DVD player i use at home is my XBOX i figured why not just put that in the Z and if i'm ever bored or stranded somehwere i could get some Halo in.

more than likely i'm just going to go with a regular DVD player. i just wanted to ask around before i made a final decision.

thanks everyone!

I want to do the same thing.

My wife and I are dfriving from NY to chicago..then to denver...then to san diego.

I was gonna put a DVD in for the ride, then thought - hey I can have a XBOX, play games, watch movies AND listen to MP3s!

With a modded XBOX I caan play all my SNK, Capcom, MAME ROMS.

Teh only issue for me is that I want to use a DVD remote. Any ideas on how to make it work? Fibre optic cable mebbe? I aLREADY HAVE A TME 750 ALPINE SCREEN (woops)

1) what should I use for a FM Modulator?

2) Also, those who have done it...is it resting on a cushioning device?

3) whaddya do for power?
