Question Speaker Experts... Max Mounting Depth for Comps?

My people...

I'm about to pull the trigger on the remainding few items for my Mobile Audio/Video setup... All I need now is to get some COMPONENTS for my doors:
They don't have to be the highest/best speakers on the planet, just a "solid" and reasonably priced pair. Anyone know the maximum mounting depth so while I'm out shopping, I get some that WILL fit...?

Thanks.

Just about all of the decent ones I've looked into will only mount with a spacer of about 1". The set I am using now has a mounting depth of 2.6" and they fit with spacer only. You can use the stock speaker as a make-shift spacer or use MDF.

My Boston Reference Z6 speakers are 62mm deep and fit with a 1" spacer but I've now got them spaced 1.5" and moved up to center in the speaker grill. I no longer use the stock speaker grill either.

My Diamond Audio CM3's were mounted using the outer mounting portion of the stock speaker. This basically meant destroying the stock speaker (way fun!!) to get the part needed.

Good idea L350Z. 1" spacer in default location causes a small portion of the speaker to touch the door panel. I would love to see a pic of your current spkr/spacer.

All see what I can do. I do want to take some pics of all my install but I've been travelling like no other recently. I'll be in KC all this week and hopefully I'll remember when I get back to take photos. I know a lot of people also want to see my tweets in the kicks.

I just made the hole bigger so mine would fit and they sound great. Plus focal recomends it bouncing off the front windshield.
Total cost $0

I was just thinking about the tweeter install yesterday, and wondering HTF should my larger tweeter be mounted without f-ing up the small housing area, which whitezed pointed out are $340!

I would like to see this/your install in person. Please PM me when you read this so we can arrange a meet. I want to be able to give my installer the best suggestions based on experience as possible.

Whitezed is not in the US, so that $340 is AUD
but still that is something around $280 US.... either way it isnt worth it as most aftermarket tweeters are to big to flush mount in the stock area..

play with the tweeters TX get some velcro and stick the tweeters in the kicks and see how they sound.....
i am installing mine properly next weekend, ill get some pics when finished ..

I understand that, that's why I want to see chaparro78 setup in person. Plus I would preffer to have my tweets mounted high for better acoustics.

Better acoustics you want? That is why people put them in the kick panels.. not because they are worried about screwing up their window pillars. Kick panels allow for a more even speration from the listeners ears, and they allow closer proximity to the mid range. Check out suggestions on Diamond Audio, Boston Acoustic, or other manufacturers sites which say kick panels are best way to go.
