Insalling Sub on a new Z
I just got my Z. It is a base model. It did not come with a sub. I like to install a sub into the factory location. Can I just install and connect a sub and it will work? If so...does anyone have a picture of where to connect the sub to?
Thanks,
Phan

if you're not planning to put a box, you will need to use free air sub only.
i'm still having hard time deciding putting the box on the trunk or adding free air sub in the stock location.
people says it sounds better with box but i really don't want to spend my trunk for this since its only car i have...
only free-air sub i know is infinity perfect 10.1d you can check it out from crutchfield website and you will find a definition of free-air sub there too. (in case you're not familiar with that term)

Just got back from the local electronics store. I am scheduled to have the sub installed today. They are going to install a 10" Kicker free air sub into the stock location. They also will fill the enclosure with some material to get better sound. They will also install a small 60x2 amp to push the sub. With all the kits and components needed, this will cost $325.00. I'll let everyone know how it sounds.
Hope this will make the music sounds decent...I've taken a vacation day from work for this.

OK...it is installed. Here's the verdict:
Component Installed:
- HLC $25
- Kicker C10 10" Sub $60
- Tsunami Speaker Kit $15
- Amp Wire $40
- Vortex 602 amp 60x2 $85
- Installation $100
- (2) high quality pillows
I now have BASS. The system sounds 20x better and the sub throws more than enough bass for my taste...I listen to melow rock music. The pillows were used to stuff the cavity and all open holes were covered with some type of metallic foam tape. The amp was placed in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat. Everything is neatly hidden away. I will order a sub cover for this...Its like less than $15. Once the sub cover is installed, everything will look like factory.
BTW...the sub does vibrate the driver seat...it would have been better to have the sub installed behind the passenger seat. Anyway...this is a cheap and affective way to get some decent bass for the Z.

Still using the factory deck. Didn't see the need to spend more dollars. Th pillows filled the cavity...I don't know if it improved the sound quailty. I haven't heard any rattles...yet...it just fills funny...vibrating my back and butt.

Hey you say that you wished the sub was behind the passenger seat. I haven't really checked it out in much detail, but could you just switch the amp and the sub? I don't want to be sitting on a vibrator while I drive.
