Where to put an amp???
Where do you guys put your amp?,
If you put a amp in the glove compartment will it get too hot?
Also where the stock sub goes, would a amp get to hot in there?
Or is is better to mount in the truck somewhere?

Depending on the size - not in cubic inches but in heat disipated! High power amps are going to overheat causing them either to 'spode or cycle on and off with the safety circuit.
I'm looking at building a custom copper panel to mount to the front of my Zenclosure (e-bay box) so that the amps hang out in all their glory into the passenger compartment air. The panel will be about 10 inches high by 30 inches wide and held off with standoffs. I'm debating on backing it with lexan and illuminating the lexan with LED's so that the edge glows (a bit). The panel will give me enough room to mount a large amplifier like the Zapco REF540.6 or the Boston Acoustics GT-50 , or two smaller amps like the JL Audio 300/2 and 300/4 or the Rockford Fosgate P6001 and P8004 side-by-side with room left over for +12 volt and ground distribution blocks. Some of the combinates leave room for the cap to be mounts in sight too.
I've read a person here who gave up their spare tire to put the amp in its place and had them over heating there. I suspect that it was trapped in a recessed pocket and there's just not enough air flow over the top of the subwoofer/rear strut bar to get cooling.

I was debating doing that or replacing the subwoofer hole with a second driver's side luggage cubby but that's like $300. I want be able to display the amp(s) ... I think. I'd jam them in one per side and wire up a thermostat and a couple of computer fans to pull the warm air out of the cubbys.

I have mine in the spare tire well under plexi glass and if I push it really hard(I mean REALLY hard...like high volume with TONS AND TONS of bass) it can overheat and shut down. I'm replacing my amp/sub in a week or so and will be putting the subs on a custom made amp rack in the trunk...maybe something with motorization so it will look cool when the trunk is open and fit well when closed.

do you think if i had the stock sub grill it would be enough to cool a kenwood 640 (<--gets really hot) and a jl audio 500/1. or should i put them in seperate, different locations.
i put mine in the glove. it barely fits.
it never gets hot. just leave some air pessage into the big open space underneath the compartment.
but then again, this amp is known for its cooling ability...

don't mind all the dust. pic was taken right after the install.

I have two Alpine amps side to side in the same location.

I just got my audison SRX4 65wx4 installed behind the driver seat compartment yesterday...the idiot installer put the rubber lining on top of the amp and did not screw the amp down, didn't put my door panel on correctly and didn't disconnect my rear speakers...I am very ticked at them.
N E ways, I have the base model so there is no grill or holes in my panel.
Should I leave the panel off to avoid over heating, kind of looks ugly?
Does anybody have pics of their amp setup behing the driver seat/stock sub compartment? I think I want to keep the amps hidden. Need some ideas, because I eventually am going to get another audison for two 12's, which I dobt I will be going to the same place again.
Any places in So Cal recommended making my sub box and getting the rest of my audio equipment worked on?

i had a sony amp in the glove-box but it would overheat. now i have a audiobahn fan-cooled amp for the sub in the spare tire well, and a alpine amp for my other speakers in the space behind/under the glovebox thats not fan-cooled and it doesn't overheat.
I was thinking about putting it behind the drivers seat just below the non-useable compartment (where I'm putting my 8" sub). I'm not that tall of a guy (5'8"/5'9") so the seat isn't all the way back. Ideas?
