Gauging Interest in Sub Box Designs
I have some ideas for a couple different sub boxes.
Would there be any interest for a 3 x 10" under strut bar box? This box would have a fiberglass body with mdf front and back panels covered in the black automotive carpet I use. Airspace would be 1.50 cubes and It would run about $300.00
The other idea I have is for the factory sub location. I've actually been working on this for awhile.
This design is a tube. This fiberglass tube slides in the stock subwoofer hole with no modification to the car. The tube has a flange. The sub gets screwed into the stock plate going thru the flang giving you a simple solution to those wanting a sealed enclosure for the stock location....hope this makes sense. I wanted to design something so you did'nt have to remove the factory mounting plate. Mounting depth would only be 5-6" at the most but I'm not sure yet. Also airspace would be around .40-.50 cu ft. I wont have an idea of the price untill I take the plug to the FG shop.
Would there be any interest in these designs? I appreciate your opinions.
thanks mike

I think your suggestions are good ideas. I have seen the 3 sub configuration before and it looked good.
I am also going to create an enclosure for the stock sub location. I am in the planning stage right now. I also need a 1.5 cf box. I will be porting my enclosure due to the 10" Rockford Fosgate Stage 2 Sub I want to use. Due to the output of the sub I want to mount the sub sideways either pointing toward the side of the car or the passenger. I think that this would make the sub sound better pointed away from your back. Has anyone ever done anything similar to what I am thinking on doing? Also, removing the speaker plate is a must if you want to put any sound deadening material inside to minimize the rattle.
I have a roadster so this is my only realistic option.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!

Actually pointing the speakers aft can cause them to load up and actually have a bit of gain that way. Look at the classic (and bloody expensive) Klisph Cornerhorns which have their woofers pointed into the room's corner using that angle as the final fold in the speaker.
Sitting that close to a true subwoofer you shouldn't be able to tell whether it's coming or going.
In a roadster you've got nothing to load up against.

That's a good point. The sub will radiate in all directions no matter where you point the face of the sub, right? I didn't know Klisph made car subs. If I did, I would have researched them. I know they make killer home stereo equipment. Your right! They are salty.
I am going to start my install this weekend. I plan on installing the following.
Kenwood DDX7015 with ipod interface
Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 Components
Infinity Reference 6.5" for rear
Rockford Fosgate T210D2 10" Sub
Rockford Fosgate Power T10001bd for the sub
Rockford Fosgate Punch P3002 for the components
Rockford Fosgate 1 Farad Digital Cap
A ton of Wiring to go with it.
Wish me luck!

I'd be down for anything that would afford the ability to put an aftermarket sub in the stock location. There's no room for it anywhere else in the roadster.

I'm all for a box that slides into the factory location without having to take apart the interior panels. But.....5-6 inches limits speaker choices. How about a similar concept, but in lieu of a flange, it's actually a baffle that an 8" sub would be mounted to?
1. Slide box in
2. Secure box
3. Mount sub

I am not sure if you know but I already have this setup in 3x10" configuration. It is 100% fiberglass and has close to 1.85 Cu Ft. The box can be painted or Vinyl finished. We sell the enlcosure anywhere from $350-$399 Depending on if it is finished or unfinished. Paint is optional.
More info you can find here http://www.wickedcas.com/gallery/cat...s.php?cat_id=6
Here is a picture of the enclosure painted.
