Default Dash Kit and Alpine 7897 dont work together

Ok, I got the metra dash kit and installed it with my Alpne 7897...... the realized there is a big problem. The flip out faceplate does not open fully because it hits the top of the dash kit. Crap......what do I do? ISO mount.....cut up the dash kit?

HELP?

Actually it will work, but you just have to live with the unit not flush when the unit is off.

I installed the Alpine 7998 (phatom face) using the Metra kit, and what I had to do was use the ISO single din pieces on each side of the unit, then slide it in and they will clip into place. Their are two keys to making this work, first, I had to set the side brackets a little further back on the head unit, meaning once they snap in within the housing the face plate of the headunit will stick out a little. The other key, was that I had to use a little extra force to slide the unit into place, so the side brackets would snap into place.

FYI, I called Metra and worked with the guy on getting this to work. I actually don't mind the face of the headunit sticking out a little, since once its on, it doesn't matter.

If you need some pics, just let me know.

hmm i have an alpine 7897 w/ a metra dash kit in mine and it is installed flush. it isn't one of the double din things but it is a recessed din metra kit and it looks great. why doesn't the double din kit work - when it opens up does the 1.5 din face hit the top of the thing? there's gotta be another kit or something or maybe you could use the kit from a maxima (the gxe's had din stereos) do you have any pics of your alpine installed? I'd love to see it!

Lightbulb Pics please!!

Could any of you who have either an Alpine 7897 or 7998 installed with the Metra 7402 kit please post some pics? I am about to do the same this week and was wondering how it looks (both with the face open and closed).

Many thanks!

Aggie,
Judging from the pictures, you used the outer trim ring that Raceboy didn't use when he installed his CDA-7894. This is what made his flush.

I looked at that route, but for some reason at the time of install I didn't like the way it looked. I might go back and mess with it, but probably not until I decide to add the lcd screen in the nav. Also, keep in mind the model Raceboy has can sit completly flush with the face on, while the 7998 and 7897 can not, due to the size of the face. Again, I could probably get the unit to sit a little further back, but since its all snapped into place I would have to take the center console off again, which I just don't have the time to do right now.

I have the 7897 installed with a custom Stainless DIN plate. It works great because the HU is centered in the DIN plate. The 1.5DIN face has plenty of room on the top and bottom. The one thing I regret, is that I didn't spring for the 7898. The 7898 has the ability to change the color to amber, in order to match the rest of the car. The 7897 is green only.

Don't worry, I have the 7998 and the amber used does not match the amber of the Z lights. It actually looks better to just stay with the Alpine green..IMO.
