Default Cd Deck compatability

originally posted in the general forums... didnt get much love though...

This is somewhat of a merge from a previous thread. DIdnt wana make that one go too off topic.

Situation: My Z came with a shitty alpine deck. The previous owner had installed it, along with it, I believe he has upgraded the speakers and amp as well.
(I actully dont have the car till about tuesday).

So...
If I was wanting to go back to the OEM deck look, can I purchase any of the decks that come from any Z (meaning Bose, non bose, cd changer, including tape, etc) and it should work without a problem? OR, do the decks inside our Z's require a certain amp/speakers/etc and are only compatable with certain amps/speakers. Whats the difference in Bose HU decks? (in fact, what the heck is HU stand for anyway?)

Appreciate the help.

HU - Head Unit - Head End

My Bloze came with the AM/FM, 6-CD, and cassette (?) with seven speakers and the rear mounted amplifier - it has four seperate plugs plus the antenna. One of the jacks just has a single wire on it but the rest are pretty well packed.

One is for the power and front speakers.

One is for the rear speakers.

One is for the sends and returns from the amplifier (I assume).

It depends on what trim level your Z is. If it originally came with the BOSE then you have the wiring and maybe even the amp. I recently ripped my trunk apart and noticed all the stock wiring still in tact. So if I wanted to revert to stock it would be pretty simple.

the car no longer has its stock amp. Its aftermarket... so I guess the Boss HU will no longer work.

Pretty much, all I want is the stock look in the interior...
with the changes made to the amp/speakers... what stock deck can I use?

Bose? Non bose? etc

Either or...you just need a line-out converter to hook up an aftermarket amp I think.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think non-bose has an external amp.

If you need a factory head unit (non Blose), I have one. I'll sell it to you really cheap. I also have the stock (clarion) speakers.
