Default New Kenwood DDX8017 Installed

I just got a chance to install the new Kenwood DDX8017. This is the new upgrade from the DDX7015. It has 5 volt preouts, 2 video inputs plus a dedicated rear camera input, Dolby PLII, SRS circle surround, 4 band parametric EQ, digital time alignment, upgraded graphics, center channel preout, dual zone, you can add a TV tuner that will work with the touchscreen functions, and it will control the new I-pod interface. I also forgot if you connect the Navigation it will work off the touchscreen of the unit. I also installed a Kenwood 6.5" monitor in the cubby hole. The car is a 05 but I used a 03 cubby hole to fit the monitor. I will have more pics of the install in progress. The rear hatch is coming along. It consist of two Boston Acoustics G5 10" subs. A GT-28 amp for the subs and a GT-42 for the front Boston Acoustics Z6 speakers. I will be using the front channels for the tweeters and some ambient tweeters and using the rear channels for the midbass drivers. I will have a Alumapro 15 farad cap, and Ixos wiring for all the interconnects and power wiring.

Nice setup all the way around!!! I'm running a G5-10 DVC and GTR-10 in my Honda with a GT-24 amp powering and it's a wonderful sub/amp. I'm using a GT22 to power my Pro60s in the car and I have to say their amps are very amazing. I'm probably going to be upgrading my xtant amp in my Z to some Boston amps soon - I want 300+ watts to my Z6s.

Here are some pics of the trunk in progress. I will lose about 1 inch of floor space since the false floor will be raised by that much. I could of made the box shorter and kept the floor flush, but the subs were to deep and I could not have made the enclousure any shorter. The other pic is of the distribution block under the shelf in the passenger cubby hole.

Nice fit. I'm not sure whether I want to go with something built in like that or get a separate LCD.

I have that exact head unit being delivered to me right now. It would be great if you had any install pics, or pics of the gui. Is it a pain to install?

Here are some pics of the GUI. They have been upgraded quite a bit from the DDX7017 and the DDX7015.

i had the DDX7017 and HATED IT the graffixs where terrible. Too plain. now this looks like its just wallpaper behind it for ever menu your in. There is no animation on this thing when entering menus is there? and is the EQ grafficly displayed and showing movement as music plays. these where things that really bugged me on the first release of this radio

The wallpaper behind the menu is what actually is moving, so there is animation. As far as some type of spectrum analyzer, no it does not have one. I consider this a great user friendly GUI versues a light show.

Mine came in today, about the install... Did you have to use an aftermarket wiring harness? To me it looks like the cables that it came with will be enough to complete the install. Any help would be great!

I would recommend buying the harness adaptor, that way you do not have to cut or splice into your factory wiring.

One last question, what dash kit did you use? I'm almost done with the install, just need a dash kit.
