Need SUB advice...
i'm planning on running a single 10'' sub with an Alpine's MRP-350 amp. 200watts RMSx1 at 4ohms. 350watts RMSx1 at 2ohms. i chose this amp because i'v heard alot of good reviews and it seems like an awesome bang for your bucks. was wondering if anyone had this amp and if so, the type of sub you were pushing. i was considering JL's 10w3, but i've read some previous posts saying its probably not the best choice. i will be using the box Mike sells on Ebay. any advice would be appreciated.

If that's the Zenclosure e-bay box it's 0.75 Cu.Ft. in size. You'll want a subwoofer designed for that size box. The most favorable ones I found when I ran them through the calculator were:
Infinity Kappa 10VQ
JL Audio 10W6V2 (2 ohm)
Rockford Fosgate P310 D2
Rockford Fostgate T210 D2
Bost Acoustics G510-44
The Rockford Fostgate T210's are the most expensive so they're the best
The Infinity 10VQ's are the most efficient by about 3 dB. The Rockford Fosgate P310's will have the deepest bass by a couple of hertz.

Look at Resonant Engineering ... Avalanche Audio and Adire's new Koda series ... they are all sure to impress and SPANK what was listed above (no offense to Paul). Niche market subs are a lot better bang (pun intended) for the buck

Just make sure you run the Thiel Small parameters though the equasions or you're just throwing drivers into boxes and hoping that "things work out".
Do you ever wonder why the companies go through all that extra expense of engineering, design, measurement, and quality control to get their parameters correct when most people are just tossing subwoofers into random sized boxes and getting random response from their speakers?
There were plenty of woofers tossed out from my research as they simply weren't a "fit" for the 0.75 cu.ft. size of the box. You could run eight screws into them and they would fit inside the wooden box naturally but would have a poor frequency response limited due to the interface between the driver and the box volume.
I've posted the links to the java calculators that do all the heavy lifting for you. Back when I was in the business it was a calculator (not programable), now just browse to the site and punch the numbers in and see what comes out.
But technology is not a panacea and there is some art to the science.
I found the Thiel-Small parameters on the Koda 10D4 and it looks like it's designed for a very small box as the Qts comes back at 0.68 in the 0.75 cu.ft. box. You might toss (then screw and glue) an extra bit of wood into the box to tune it for a bit higher Qts. If you were running dual 10D4's the Qts would be about 0.87 which would give a bit more thump to your woofer without sound too un-natural.

thanks for the response Paul...
those are nice subs you've listed above. do you think the amp i'll be running will provide enough power to these subs. or would it be better to look at lower powered subs such as the rockford stage 2 subs (power range 50-200W). a friend tells me its always better to put the quality/power of the amp before the sub itself.

honestly, at my shop we have the alpine amps and subs, and tho Alpine makes great head units, there is much to be desired for their amps and speakers, especialy compared to the niche brands out there.
I agree with the post above by paul350z re: the RF T series or the JL W6. Also take a look at the Diamond 10" D3, Eclipse Aluminum series if you have some $, or if you want some bang for your buck, Directed Audio.

A Peerless XLS 10" would work well. That is the subwoofer used in this picture. Aaron Davis of Houston, Tx built this enclsoure recently for a white 350Z. The enclosure is at 0.4ft³ sealed.
The subwoofer performed very well, and complemented her Morel Elate Series components. The setup is powered by a pair of Audison amps.
