Default Demand for this box.

My friend and I have perfected making this box, added in some new features like hinges on the sides of the top so it is a drop in box and you don't have to build it in, we've made it in vinyl top and carpet top, and we are currently working on fitting 1 and 2 12's under the strut tower. (But that is not ready yet) Would there be any demand for these? We will sell one cheap for the first go around so that someone can review it and post the review on this site.

Okay here is the deal, I've made a couple and the design is perfected. Tomorrow I'm going start building the boxes that will be for sale, and take detailed pictures. I would like to sell these for around $175, but I understand that people will be hesitant to buy from me without a review. Given that, I'll build one tomorrow and put it up for sale, and this one will go for $100, not really making me a whole lot of money but that person can write a review of his/her experience with me and the box. I don't want someone to come forth just yet to be the first, I'll start a new thread once the first box is done and then the first to reply has dibs. So thats the plan, the new thread will have exact specs on the box, and if you have any other questions just ask them here or PM me, a few people already have. Any and all input is welcome, just please make it constructive. Thanks.

correct me if im wrong, but isnt it better to have the bass firing in the other direction so that it can bounce off of the hatch and so there is more room for air movement.

In a car with as little space as the Z you will not notice much of a difference in SPL with the subs firing towards the rear hatch as opposed to firing the way this box does. With the Z it is pretty much individual preference. I currently have an under the strutbar enclosure, but will be changing to one very much like this, but fiberglass due to the subwoofers I am using and the wattage I will be pushing.

having the subs firing in this direction, would be less rattle than facing right at the hatch

The box is made of 3/4 in MDF board, sealed with Liquid Nails wood sealant/glue. As far as mounting depth goes, there are two options which you will have to specify. To explain these I must first mention the setup that will be offered. There will be a box that is custom fit to the area in front of the strut bar, in the same package you will receive a top board that screws on top of this box (screws included), and will be carpeted and pretty. Option number 1, if your mounting depth is greater than 6.5 in then I will cut the top board so that you mount it to the top board, and then the screws will penetrate the top board, and go into the box itself which will have the same size opening, so that you get an extra 3/4 in of mounting depth. If your subs require less mounting depth, I will widen the top board holes to a full 10.2" so that the subs will be flush with the top board and you will mount the subs to the box itself. This is the method I have found to be most effective. The box won't be carpeted save for the back panel which you will see through the strut bar. I build every box inside of my car to assure a perfect fit, so it takes a LOT of work to build these. Furthermore, I will line the edges of each box with scrap carpet so that you do not accidentally scrape your Z when you put it in. It can and will go in scrape free, I just want your experience with the box to be a good one. The airspace I calculate between 1.6-1.65 cu. ft. I estimate that 4 boxes will be ready by friday, and I would like to sell them at $175 a box plus shipping, but since I am a new seller I cannot ask everyone to dish that out without having seen this. One of the 4 boxes is going for $100 as an introductory price, the sale on this is pending. Other than that, PM me if you are positive you want one. I have 3 that will definately be available, and possibly one more if the sale falls through. Thanks for your interest everyone, I'll have pics up by Friday for sure, hopefulyl tomorrow night. (It's a looong process, I'm hurrying)

okay people, i have had a change in plans... I have to go up to college early because the registrar is incompetent. So my box building project will have to wait. I have 2 that the glue is curing on, will be ready to ship out as soon as monday. First two people to offer $175 shipped get the boxes. In front of the strut is a very constricted space, so the way they work is you will have the box itself with two holes, and the top board that is carpeted with two of the SAME SIZE holes. The instructions are as follows :

Put box in (just pick it up and set it down)
Put top plate in ( as before )
Screw top plate into box (if you want me to include screws I will, anything will work but just ask me if you need them)
Now mount the subs onto the top plate

That's it. This way gives the extra mounting depth required to mount subwoofers with larger cones. PM me with any questions.

Again, these boxes have just over 1.6 cu. ft. of airspace, and come in black carpet. I really wanted to build more than this but I have to wait till next summer.
