I had both tape and fm transmitter and my chose was for tape.
sounds better than fm and more reliable. don't expect any amazing sound but its sounds quality was good enough to enjoy on stock speakers.

Thanks for the import, I'm not a huge audi guy as I'm really impressed with the factory BOSE (way better than my previous factory HONDA s2000 factory system). Any input as to which tape connection is best? eg. Belkin ect?

i had sony tape (only because sony tape/wre is same color as stock Z skin)
and i used belkin car charger and belkin ipod cupholder.
main benefit of using belkin charger is that charger has audio out so you connect your tape wire to charger all the time and when you get in the car, only thing you have to do is connect ipod to belkin charger's dock connector.
If you do that, your ipod's volume control will be disabled and your will use your stock headunit's volume as your manin volume control.
No hassle to connect your ipod to power and headphone out to tape.
One thing i suggest on that setup is make sure your belkin charger's volume control on the cigarette adapter is set on low. if you make it high, it add alot of noise.
let me know if you have any questions. (i don't think i explained well)

I have the stock stereo and I am forced to use the iTrip.....it absolutely SUCKS. I would kill for the tape deck connection.
Oh well, guess I gotta put a iPod compatible system in the car....I'll get over it
Pioner DEH-P80MP anyone?

Time to resurrect this old thread for those with 2003 Bose systems and a soldering iron.
