Default AVIC-D1 / N2 Installation Help.

Hey guys,

I am installing my AVIC_D1 right now ... and I cannot for the life of me find the Speed Sensor Wire. It is supposed to be socket 20 (W) white wire ... and there is nothing there that I can find at all.

I am assuming it is part of the "white box" that is under the stock radio ... that is where I have been looking for the harness to tap into.

Please help ... any pictures of the exact location (I know this is asking a lot) would greatly help.

Thanks
Jim

The wire is indeed white with gray hoops every few inches. There's only one white box inside the bottom of the console and the wire is pretty easy to find.

Paul,

Thanks for the reply above. I was posting under protocav's computer before. Anyhow...

I did eventually find that diagram you posted above and it worked like a charm, thank you!

I do have one more question. I did the "nav trick" parking brake thing....and I am not sure if I did it right.

Basically, I added that extra wire to the one slot in the harness, then I took that and the "parking brake ground" wire that came with the unit and grounded them both to the chassis. Is that the correct way to do it, or should the parking brake wire still have gone to the parking brake? I ask this becasue I got a parking brake warning, and none of my navi functions are availible.

Thanks again in advance
Jim

The AVIC N2 can't be fooled by grounding the parking brake - the older AVIC N1 can. From what I've read the N2 (and I assume the D1) use the built-in gyro (actually inertia detectors) to detect that the car is in motion and shut off the screens. I've seen this work on my N2 as I attempted to lock the brake on the first notch up ... I get about 30 feet and the screen pops up the warning on the built-in screen and only the rear seat (navigation cubby) continues to work.

I have seen on my unit where I get the parking brake ground fault even though I've wired it up correctly. After starting the car a couple of times the thing figured itself out and stopped complaining.

I did post a "hack" on where to make a soldier bridge on a pair of contacts to put the N2 into the diagonistic mode. I don't have the link stored on this computer though.

I'm having some trouble finding that wire too. I see three connectors going to the white box but no white wire yet. I'll go look again.

The speed sensor wires on the 03's is in the center white connector from the white box ... it is #26 or 3rd over from the right when looking at it "head on" into the female side. I know this b/c my vehicle dynamics works.

I still don't have a fix for the parking brake yet .. but I will get to it this weekend when I get some free time. ... if anyone has a detailed explanation on what to do please post.

Basically, what I did was put the "new" wire into the open spot on the harness. I then took that and the parking brake wire and grounded those both to the chassis .... just like I thought I read in the cheat-instructions....but that did not work very well.

any help is appreciated.

Hey Jim,

I also have a 03' and the only white wire I found was on the white center connector, which I ended up tapping. I can't find my service manual so is this the right one? I don't see any grey hoops on it. I won't have a chance to drive the car until this weekend so I still have some time to install this thing.

Thanks

Rog,

Now that I think about it. The wire that I tapped was in the grey colored "plug". It was the smallest of the three plugs (I believe it had 16 pins). Basically, get to the service manual and there is a good diagram of it. It is #26(W) in the service manual.

It is a white wire forthe first ~0.75" or so ... if you pull back the black color "tape" that holds all the wires together .. you can see the color stripes.

Good luck!

I think I am just gonna ground the parking brake like normal, since I can't get it to work, and I really don't need to change places while I am on the freeway. The gyro is noticing my car moving anyways, so I think that this thing is gonna never work while I drive

Oops, I meant to say the grey center connector. I also just grounded the parking brake wire but I have an N1. I think the hack is different for the D1.

I found this site while searching for the hack/bypass option. Do you guys think it's a scam? I just bought an Avic D1 and would like to know!

Nope that's the same procedure I saw and quoted here. A couple of guys tried it on their D1's and it worked and another on the N2.

No not on the D1 and the N2 - their gryo's sense the movement and shut the screen off of video. Playstation into the screen should work on the reduced screen by putting the monitor to split screen showing the map on the left side and the rear camera (playstation) on the right.
