Default sub and amp question

hello everyone: i just traded in my gto for an 03track (daytona blue) last night and i guess the previous owner had an alpine amp and sub (swe 1042) that was wired up wrong.....in any event, the dealership took them out and gave them to me.....would this be a suitable sub to go into the stock location? or should i have a custom box built for it....right now, there is no sub where the stocker should be.

thanks, any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on the car.

If the sub is a free-air sub then it can go in the stock location. If it's not then it won't sound good at all without a box.

you track model didn't come with sub. All Zs come with sub mount metal place but only Touring models come with sub (which is pretty much useless anyway).

If you want to save some space and have pretty decent sound, check out this (aka corner box):
https://my350z.com/forum/audio-builds/118365-finally-got-my-corner-sub-box.html

I have one of those and very happy with it. Since it has about .5 cu.ft., don't recommend it for any seroius powerpul subs but your type-s will work just fine with this box.

did they put any sound dampening material in there when they installed your sub? If you put some dynomat in that compartment, it should help with any rattling.

yes they did use some dynamat.....but there are tons of leaks in the back area and the side....they only used dynamat in the front......its all good though, im gonna buy a box and just set it in the back....hopefully that will sound much better.

i think im just gonna order one from crutchfield.....the Q logic type II....nothing fancy.....but i first have to measure the dimensions to make sure it clears the rear window....i want something thats somewhat portable....so i can just remove it when i need to utilize the space.
