Default map dvd rom missing in slot?

okay, i got my car back from Best Buy where they installed a sub and amp for me and now my nav system is reading the above error message.....there's no cd in there and the guy at best buy said he didn't touch it.....does the cd have to be in there at all times for it to work? i called the dealership and they said they think it does....if thats the case, the guy took out the cd and misplaced it....it costs 900 bucks for a replacement cd

i don't know what to do

It's a DVD, and yes, you need the map DVD in the DVD player at all time.

okay, the guy from best buy just called me back and said that he called a local dealership and they told him that the dvd doesn't have to be in all the time...he said that once it is loaded it can be removed.....this is important to me because i have to find out if the folks at best buy misplaced it or something....i never checked to see if one was in there.

I doubt that would work because Nissan/Infiniti uses a DVD, not a CD. You also have to have the DVD in there at all times.

here you go,

Dude, I think the problem is is a miscommunication. Let me explain.

Canadians (and not Americans) owner gets one free navigation map upgrade. I called and they shipped me the new navigation map. When I got the package, there was two disc. one disc was a _CD_ disc that had firmware/software that needed to be loaded into the navigation system. Basically it works the voice and menu and all that crap. The second disc was a _DVD_ disc. After you installed the _CD_ disc. you take out the _CD_ disc and put it away. You then put the _DVD_ disc witch has the data of the maps into the dvd player and it stays in the dvd player all the time.

See what I mean, you need to communicate this fact to all parties involved.

before i took it in, i could see maps.....now it says "dvd map missing slot" but it still has a menu....i can view info settings but no map.....so do i need both disks at this point?
at this point, i believe the folks over at best buy that they didn't remove anything so how is it i could see maps before i took it in?

thank you for all your advice...i think there is a big mis-communication here somewhere.

you got jacked. Even if they have it you will not get it back because that would make them look bad for taking it out in the first place. Sucks for you.

+1 They've got shady employees because the car went in with the DVD disc and came out without. Don't let them tell you that the disc just has to be loaded once and then you don't need it. THAT"S A LIE! They just want you to get off their back. The Nav software is on a DVD disc that must be in at all times. Even when your NAV unit is off (ie. door closed) your NAV is constantly spinning the DVD disc. Turn off your stereo and every few seconds, you'll hear the disc start spinning. You need to talk to a manager and get your SH*T back! The sooner the better, because they'l start thinkin' you lost it somewhere else and you're trying to blame them. Don't buy a new disc because you'd simply be rolling over for them after they've jacked your stuff.

why would they take it out? wouldn't this disc be useless to them? i went over there just a couple hours ago and spoke to the manager who seemed concerned...he took apart my navi and checked to make sure all the wires were connected...then he called a local dealership and they said that it doesn't have to be in all the time.....now you guys are telling me it does....do they all work the same? i can't just go there without any evidence and accuse them of stealing my disc....i never verified that it was in there but i can tell you that i saw maps before i took it in....maybe what i was seeing wasn't quite everything? oh god, this sucks

The dealership made a mistake. If you want a for sure answer on the DVD being in all the time, then call Zenrin and tell them about your situation: http://www.zenrin.com/contact.asp

Don't go to the dealership for your answer. Call the people who actually make the discs. Ask them if it needs to stay in the DVD if you don't beleive us.

Frankly, I'd be concerned about the quailty of your dealership if they don't even know that the DVD disc needs to be in at all times.

As I stated in the previous post, I think it is miscommunication. The best buy manager probably asked the dealer if the "CD" needs to be in the dvd player at all time and so the dealer probably told him no it doesn't, which is true. The "CD" disc does not need to be in at all time. _BUT_ the "DVD" disc needs to be in the player at all time.

I totally believe you guys....you're right about the dealerships around here not knowing jack......im sick of arguing with the guy at best buy though....zenrin has ver. 6.4 for 180 bucks or something....i'll just get that i guess....ebay has older versions for less but auctions are like 4-6 days away....i don't wanna wait......thank you all for your knowledge....this forum is great.

Best Buy gets a big thumbs down

They could jack or "lose" the DVD for a number of reasons...

1. They could sell it because they don't come cheap.
2. They could have a buddy with an older model who needs an upgrade and doesn't wanna for over the $$$.
3. They "tried" to copy the disc
4. They were curious, pulled out the disc, and lost it or forgot. Now their trying to cover their tracks.

There is no way you could see maps if you didn't have the DVD disc in. When I bought my '05 Touring, the first thing I checked was the NAV unit. I wanted to set it to lead me home, which is about 1.5 miles, by the way. I love gadgets and gizmos, so I wanted to try it right away. Anyways, the NAV unit wouldn't let me do anything but get info (the distance until you need oil/filter change). Turns out, the dealer that negotiated the dealer trade with my local dealership sent the car, and not the disc. It took another week to get them to mail the disc. In the meantime, I just got really acquainted with the manual becuase I couldn't play with the real thing.

Good luck getting your SH*T right. Talk to the Best Buy manager with all of the information so can see you know what you're talkin' about. And BTW... I totally agree with ZlleH about the Best Buy manager miscommunication with the dealership... CD vs. DVD makes for confusion. Zenrin uses both types of discs, but for our NAV the maps are on the DVD.

i personally help manage the car install department at best buy in NC. if they lost your disc they would have no problem buying you a new one. Its the biggest retailer of electronics in america. its a billion dollar a year organization. I see to it that if we f*ck up we fix it. doesn't come out of my pocket. So go back or call and speak to the General Manager. just skip all the other bs and go to the top of the chain of the store. He'll make it right for you and if he doesn't pm me.

Just wanted to give you guys an update on my situation:
After speaking with the General Manager, i received a call from a representative from the Best Buy claims department and long story short...they offered me half the price of the map dvd ($95.00)
I accepted.

Thank you all for your advice and knowledge.....if it weren't for most of you, I would have caved in and shelled out the full $190.

thanks.....now whats that damn site again? j/k
