Just picked it up. Decided on it based on my past Alpine experience and I think I'll be really happy with it.
Anyways, I'm not looking to make this an elaborate system like I had before. To make it clear, I was running an Alpine 4ch V12 on Focal rear coax's and Alpine front components, wiht a PG Xenon amp pushing a flat cone eD 12" before........
I just want some decent components for the front and coax's in the rear in this car, something that can handle more bass than the stockers, without being externally amplified (I want to use the head unit only). I don't have any plans to put the subwoofer in yet (don't want to add the extra weight at this time).......
Any suggestions? Once again, something that'll handle mid and low bass without cracking and blowing (Focals=out. I've heard too many complaints about focal's blowing under mild bass).
Also, my music style: Techno, trance, house, dance, rock, alternative, metal.

I just bought that yesterday. Haven't received it yet, but it seems like a great head unit. I decided to cheap out as well and not go with the double din eclipse monitor nav thing
At least this way I can have XM. The 9855 is Alpines most expensive sat ready un it according to their website. I was able to get it for $320 shipped off ebay.
I think it'll be great!

I agree. got mine off ebay too, should be arriving soon. I have XM with a little portable unit so I probably won't spend the money on those expensive add on units.

I had a 9853 and got rid of mine a couple weeks later and went back and rebought the previous 9833 model I once had. I couldnt stand the usability of the 9853, The glide tough is an awful pain in the a$$ to use. I have had many Alpine units and by far this one was the worse especially in the usability department.
My personal choice if your into SQ is Nakamichi. They are basically out of business here in the US, so their products are real cheap. Nothing can come close to NAK for SQ for the money.
You should be able to find their components on ebay.
I hope this glide thing doesnt suck ***.

.Bring back HU's with lots of buttons I say. Wading through menu after menu to get to where you want to be is a pain. The reaction time after you have pressed a button or the crappy slider thing is quite slow as well, adding the the annoyance.

Ugh...
I don't know what I was thinking, I had blind faith in this glide thing and somehow I knew it was going to suck, yet I bought it anyway on faith.
I'm thinking this 9820XM is much better

So what does that leave, the 9847.. Seems to have MP3 sat ready and not be glide.
It's only 125 dollars, is it going to suck

My best advice is to go with the 9835 or 9855. I got mine off ebay. They are last years models, but by far the better and far superior to the new ones. Glide touch has to be the worst idea Alpine has ever came up with. Its very difficult and near impossible to use while driving. Even standing still its a pain to use.
