CRAZY deal at best buy yesterday
Its not crap because he payed $125 for its, its crap because I'v been working in audio stores and building systems since I was in junior high. I'v worked with every line out there except a few imported brands. In the last few years SOny sound quality has slightly improved but they still have that nasty whistle when they thump and poor quality. If you wanna buy something decent prices at Bestbuy buy a dual voice coil Power Accoustic. For a low priced sub they last a hell of a long time and lay down some decent beats. a single 10 or 2 10's of those won't run you much. Live and learn everyone starts small unless spoon fed

I guess I am not as into this as most of the guys here. I already replaced my stock stereo as noted in my sig. Now I am upgrading to a Kenwood KVT-717DVD/CD 7' touch screen with nav unit tied into the 15' flat screen and PS2 in the trunk lid.
All of which can be purchased at any department/ electronics store. I figure that is 3k well spent. It will sound clear and have enough power for me without breaking the bank or changing the style of the car too much.

Some of my buddies buy the most expensive name brand stuff and it sounds like CRAP!

MB Quart = great. Make stuff for people who can afford it. Look for them on the internet and save at least $100 from store prices.
Pioneer= some good some great some excellent, depends on what series stuff you get. They make stuff for the masses and stuff for the hard core people.
Alpine= most of it great. There are cheap versions and expensive ones, but all in all good.
JBL amps= I bought some of their old discontinued amps very cheaply and I must say, I'm impressed. For the price it is great. The newer stuff I have seen looks good and made by Crown. A leader in commercial amps.
I think any of the major manufacturers like Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, etc is good.
I have also seen some nice units out of Clarion, JVC, etc that look decent, but have no experience with them.
I have ordered much of my car stereo through internet suppliers and you can save a ton of $$. Go to the store, check it out, buy on the internet... I hate to do that to the local businesses, but internet prices are so low, that it's hard to justify the extra cash to purchase locally.
I look around in the stores and have found that many times, they'll sell it to you for the internet price if they can ... I'd rather have the local store make $20 than make nothing at all. I present it like this:
"If you can do this price, I'll buy it here. Otherwise, I'll go pick it up myself and have you install it."
Usually, if they can match it ... they will ...

If they can come close, that works for me ... saves me time and shipping ... I'm not usually going to moan over $10 when we're talking about a $200 item ...
Granted, if 'close' is still $40 away ... I can wait ...
