Default IPOD, Sirius, & new headunit...

Looking to install a new headunit that will can control an ipod and Sirius sat. radio. I spoke w/ a guy at Crutchfield & he recomended a Pioneer DEH-P3700MP w/ an ipod adapter (130CDIB100) and Sirius adapter (130SIRPNR1). Anyone have a similar setup? Is this Pioneer deck decent? I also saw the Alpine CDA 9847 but the guy from Crutch said Alpine's have problems when both an Ipod and Sat. radio are hooked up. Is that true? I read the reviews on Cructh about the ipod adapter and they aren't too favorable. I'm just looking for a clean set up that can do all of the above.

Whatever you do, don't get an Alpine CDA 9847! Don't get ANY Alpine.

I have the CDA 9845 radio and it is horrible! It cuts off long song names, takes forever (3 seconds) to show you the channel name when switching channels, and just overall sucks.

See my review here: https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-video/132396-alpine-cde-9845-head-unit-review.html

(I still haven't upgraded mine, trade fell through. Now I'm waiting for the AVN 5495 to fix its bugs and supports the Sirius unit)

Ok, so it seems like Alpine may be out b/c I also read that it's slow when using an IPOD as well, reviews from Crutchfield. So...

Would you recommend a
1) Kenwood non Excelon (less expensive)?

2) Kenwood Excelon?

3) Pioneer?

Remember, it has to do Sat Radio, and Ipod. Thanks.

I have a Pioneer AVIC-N2. Its a navi/DVD player as well. I am going to be hooking up the SIR-PNR1 to it later this week. I dont have an IPOD so i cant tell you how that interface looks,i use another MP3 player connected to the AV input on it. If you want any input on that setup, let me know.

After a little more research I'm going to be hoking the Ipod to rear auxiliary input and controlling the Ipod with itself instead of through the radio. I will also be hoking up the Sirius Adapter (SIRKEN1) to the headunit. This is the headunit I think I'm going with, Kenwood KDC-MP628: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Q1lrohM...i=113MP628#Tab

I was making this decision as well - but then I thought about it and decided that I didn't want to carry my Ipod in and out of my car all the time. My Ipod is for when I am on the go. So if you're like me and have all of your music stored on a hard drive in your house, and you have a wireless network set up, check out the Rockford Fosgate Omnifi. It is long discontinued, so you can get it for way cheap on eBay. I picked one up for a little over $100 - and these things used to be 8-900 when they came out. It is basically a hard drive that sits in your trunk, and all of your tunes get zapped to it over the air. You don't need the wireless, but it helps keep your library current. This way I've completely eliminated the ipod installation.

Great find!

How big if a HD did you put in your car? How much room does this entire set up take?

Actually I haven't even installed it yet - but I am getting a pretty good deal, combined with a few other things. I will definitely post pics - likely sometime over the next 2 weeks. My plan is to put the control unit in the mail slot behind the passenger seat (for now; eventually I may do a custom console with an opening for this) and hide the hard drive in the glove box. If you have a wireless network, the way I understand it, you don't need to take the cartridge in and out of the car. I am going to get one of those trim kits for the stock Nav for the mail slot so it fits flush. There is also a companion home unit you could get htat allows you to play your mp3s through your home stereo; though there are also a lot of other devices out there now that do this.

Everything you could possibly want to know about this system

Well, here it is. The removable hard drive (don't really need to remove it unless I want to transfer files via USB - which I don't need to do if I have the wireless network working. I haven't gotten around to configuring it yet though) is mounted by the spare tire, completely hidden from view. Here is the install of the display unit. I am thinking about having a "door" fabricated so that it is hidden from view. Maybe something in plexiglas. Anyone have any experience with that? What should I pay for something like that? I guess the big question is how to do it - whether it is on a hinge or whatever. All I know is that I'd like to have it completely hidden & stealthy. I picked up the "home" unit on eBay for next to nothing, so now I can play my mp3s through my home stereo. The one caveat is that the software that comes with it only runs on Windows and I am primarily a Mac user. I am running it off of an old spare windows box - still kind of putting it all together. The other negative about the car unit is that there is no remote, so I really can't mess with it while driving - but that is what playlists are for. Between 20GB of mp3s, Sirius, AM/FM, Cassette, and single CD, now I have too much to listen to and keep switching around!
