Default ipod question...

I did a search and found mixed results so I am just going to ask. I would like to know the easiest possible way to hook an ipod up to the non bose stock head unit for an 03 Z. I have been looking all over the web and have seen tons of gadgets but most of them do not work if you have the factory navigation system. Any recommendations on how I can make this happen with the least amount of hassle and cost? I looked at various FM transmitters but I would rather have a direct hookup if I can. I would highly appreciate any help with this one.

Default Not Yet

You're probably out of luck for awhile. The only thing I've seen that might meet your needs is the Harman/Kardon Drive using the direct connection to the FM antenna.

Other than that, I've yet to find a simple connection to the stock or Bose stereos without a lot of additional gear.

What is it with the NAV system that precludes you from using them? I would think that the iCarPlay Wireless FM transmitter would work regardless. I have heard mixed reviews about its sound quality and interference though.

Well, I am trying to stay away from the FM transmitter if I can and most of the direct connect gadgets don't work if you have the factory nav.

i have the fm transmitter in my car and the sound quality is good but the volume is very low, on one song i had to max out my speakers just to have it at a regularly loud level.

zedsled,
Do you have the Bose system? If so, you can add an rca input for $100.

this acts as an additional cd changer. You hit CD6 two time to get to the new input. No better way to do it and the sound quality will be top notch.

i am not familiar w/ the 06 head, as I know it's different from the 04 and 05 head. This unit from pac-audio works w/ the sat ready heads such as 04 an 05:

the 06 looks like a completely different head though, and I'm not sure what will work. I don't think an 06 head will fit in a previous year car, based on the pics I've seen, but I could be wrong.

I've had an Ipod for 3 years and I still don't use it in my Z because there is no simple way to hard wire it to the stock radio. And FM transmiters suck, unless you enjoi static

actually, I think the soundgate aux-niss will work on your car. I know it works w/ 03 bose equipped, but am fairly certain it works w/ base head units as well.

The base radio doesn't have an aux input. As far as I know that's the only way to hardwire the Ipod, if there's another option I'd love to know it. I'm not an installer myself, but do have a couple friends that are professional installers and that's what they tell me.

right here guys:
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundauxniss.html

I know this works w/ the bose, and think it works w/ base as well. Both heads are made by Clarion, so it wouldn't surprise me. Log Jam could probably say for sure, but this should give you an aux input that the head sees and an external cd changer.

there is not an 03 z w/ a SAT button on the radio. you're in the clear according to the logjam website.
