Default best place to ground a head unit?

being that this is my first car, it is also my first stereo install. i bought an alpine head unit, and on the wiring harness there is a wire with a connector to atatch to a bolt. is there any certain bolt where i would get the best ground?

i tried to search but everything i found was about engine grounding, thanx

i bolted it to a small screw under the shift boot. there are 4 of them holding the rubber shift cover in place. just loosen one abit and slide the grounding prongs underneath and re-tighten. like a champ

Why not just ground it to the wiring harness?

There is a large dashboard grounding point for the harness just behind the combo-gauge in the triple gauge cluster. There's about ten wires in the bundle that hits a bare steel looking pipe that's running the width of the top forward part of the dash. Once you pull the center console out just look around up there and it will come to you.

Yes its perfectly fine to splice the alpine harness wire into the nissan adapter wiring harness. I have mine wired like that, and have had it like that on all of my previous cars. Its easy, and you know its grounded correctly that way.

There were Z's when I was 16 ... I'm not THAT old. My dad did let me spend my money and to get a job to feed and insure my '73 Plymouth.

Yeah, the best thing to do is to ground everything together - that's the function of the ground - to gather up all the negative leads and deliver them back to the battery source. The screw has enough thread to slip another lug under it. The typical split "Y" looking terminal will work just fine.
