no velcor will not work, i always sugest securing it, if you really really cant stand the htough of drilling then do this

slide a piece of wooden board, under hte carpet where the amp is going to sit, and then, put the amp above it and screw ito the board, the amp and the wood sandwiches the carpet so it ownt move...but getting the wood in there may be a pain

+1, but without the wood. Secure the damn thing. Accidents happen, they are not planned events, they are accidents. Nothing like the blunt object trauma of a flying amp or sub box to ruin your day/week/month/year/life.

Brake out your sewing kit and some fishing line and sew that bad boy down to the carpet.

Just kidding. Screw that sucker down! Something like a JL Audio 1000/1 or a Zapco Reference 1000 checking the back of your head upon an impact would be NASTY!!

Actually a good thought... can I fish a cable/zip tie through the carpet using a needle/wire and then use that to secure the amp?

I think it might work...

I'm going to try the zip tie... one zip tie through each screw hole and a big 18 inch zip tie across the entire amp in the middle (protected by insulation of course to avoid melting from the heat...

this should secure it well... if not, I'll know who to blame for putting ideas in my head...

Well if you are actually going to do this, don't worry about the insulation to the ties as amps get hot, but will not melt that plastic. If it did, you have big issues!

ok...thanks...

but seriously, if done right this should work right? what are the cons to doing it this way?

there isn't much space under the seat to begin with and to add even a thin piece of wood would be very difficult...

If you are installing it under your seat, you should be fine.

I mounted the brain of my AVIC-N2 and the Pioneer XM/NavTraffic unit under the passenger seat with the wood/carpet/electronics sandwich method described above. I did use some 'heavy duty velco' to attach the wood to the metal floor to try to minimize any movement. Seems pretty solid, although these components aren't too big or heavy.

just installed it today with cable/zip ties...

there is a beam/strut that goes from one side to the other under the seat (beneath carpet) and it has a hole in it...

I passed an 12 inch zip tie under the beam through the carpet and secured the amp with the zip tie....

very secure... and since it's attached to the floor via the beam it's not just hooked to the carpet...

and when the seat is pushed all the way back, nobody can tell that there's an amp under there....

thanks to done12many2 for the sewing suggestion which lead me to use zip ties...

adjusting amp gain is a pain though, but doable...

Depending where you want to mount the amp...velcro wouldn't be a bad idea. You can get industrial strength velcro that holds hundreds of pounds per square inch of velcro. Heck, the first gen neon's had some of their body panels attached with velcro (front fenders). Will it be as good as bolts...no...will it be as good as small sheetmetal screws...possibly.

only problem with velcro is that one side needs to be sewn into the carpet... the stock carpet is not velcro friendly... (I tried)...

for those wanting to bolt amps to the floor... that support beam can also come in handy
