Dynamat Effectiveness?
I recently put a JL 10W7 in a custom box in my trunk. The W7 is a great speaker and the sound quality is unbelievable, however, I am listening to as much of my trunk as I am the woofer. The car just vibrates way too much. The only think I can think of is to Dynamat the trunk area to try and reduce the rattling. I've never used Dynamat before so I was hoping that someone who has can tell me about it. Should I be expecting a just slight reduction is the rattling or will this stuff make my car completely quiet and tight? Any other suggestions on how to help solve this problem would be great

Dynamat is great when it is applied correctly. while there are several types of dynamat, the Dynamat Original can get heavy if you use a lot of it.
as an alternative, they have "dynamat extreme" which is aluminum backed and much lighter. it actually uses a different kind of dampening material, a really sticky gooey material, which does not require heat to apply, unlike the normal dynamat. it is more expensive, but its benefits outweigh the price.
you can order rolls of it on ebay, thats where it is cheapest. as for the installed difference, you will notice a definite improvement if it has been installed correctly. i have personally installed both dynamat extreme and dynmat original to many different cars and the difference is amazing. you will notice the bass is much easier to hear and feel, and the panels in the car dont buzz and vibrate.
i highly suggested that if you dont know how to apply it, just to pay an installer to do it, or get a friend who knows how to do it, because it CAN get messy. i hope i have answered all your questions, if not feel free to PM me and i will explain more!

if you are doing large areas i would recomend brown bread. i would also recomend spraying it first with a few coats of dyna shield or any other form of spray dampner. this will also cut back on road noise.

I used about 50 sqft of a new material called FATMAT in my install. I did my doors, trunk/hatch, wheel wells, and anything else I thought might vibrate. FATMAT is easy to apply and performs similar to Dynamat Extreme, except the cost is about half as much. It is supposedly advertised as a direct replacement for Dynamat extreme and has the aluminum backing and super sticky adhesive side. I think I paid $125 shipped for 100 sqft which included a solvent to make sure the application area was clean, a utility knife, and roller tool. So far, I am very happy...my car is much quieter, and the wheel wells much more tolerable (less stone noise). I have yet to install my 10w6 in the hatch, but I think all the time I spent putting this material down will pay off...
If you want a good laugh, check out the factory dampening material on the rear wheel wells...what a joke ! Mine wasn't even stuck down, I pulled both sides off with a little pressure. Needless to say, I redid all of the factory areas with the FATMAT...
