Default Constant 12V source in the cabin

I need a always on 12V source for my Sirius radio and I-pod module for my AVIC Z1. Can anyone tell me a safe place to get that from inside the cabin?
Also, There are 3 connectors on the back of the factory non-bose HU 2 white and 1 brown. what is the brown on for? My Metra wire harness has no provision for it.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Ray

Do you have a hotwire probe or a Fluke DMM?

If you decide to mount them in the rear area (glove compartment), just grab the rear 12V cigarette lighteroutlet. I know the Pioneer XM tuner has the fused 12V in .... so the cig. lighter is perfect for it.

In the front, you can tap slipce into the yellow lead (before the inline fuse of the Z1's yellow lead wire.

Why would you want something to be always on?? That is going to put alot of drain on your battery. I would go with something that is turned on when they key is in the ignition (ex. the cig lighter).

Your iPod and Sirius hookups dont need constant power, they need switched power.

Hrm, my sirius unit called for constant power, I guess the HU acts as the remote turn on...

I guess it could .... but I can't for any reason see why it would need it.

the pioneer sirius tuner and ipod adapter do need a constant and a ground. the easiest place is to tap them in on your harness behind the stereo. if you have the metra/pioneer harness wired up just match up the colors, yellow to yellow, and black to black

Hmm ... I guess I always thought my D1 did that for me in it's lil flash memory that it has (this is for XM though) ... I gotta say I really don't know on this one....guess you'll have to tap the battery or fuse panel somewhere.

The manuals for both the i-pod and the sirius tuner do call for always on 12v. I ended up just running them up to the head unit and tapped into the yellow wire. I mounted the sirius and Ipod unit under the secret stash compartment behind the passenger seat.
The Z is really nice to work on, everything comes apart really easy and there is tons of room to run cabling.
Anyone know wht that brown connector on the back of the factory radio is for?
