Default help please..... short circuit

Hey guys,

I was trying to fix my back-up camera. While I was checking the voltage on the power wires to the camera, I accidentally touched the two wires. My key was in the ignition at the "accessory" setting. When the wires touched, radio shut off and a bunch a lights turned on on the dash. Now when I put the key back to the accessory setting, my radio won't turn on and the light on the dash are still on.

What should i do?

BTW I can't try to start my car b/c I'm waiting on a part for my supercharger. Right now I have the battery disconnected hoping the ECU will reset and magically fix itself....lol.... =(

I do hope your luck is better than mine was. I did that with my 2nd to last install. I blew everything from the radio back to the amp. A very expensive lesson to learn to always disconnect the battery.

For mine, it actually damaged the entire interior fuse box. I had to find a totalled car to replace that (last car).

Might cost you a $0.25 fuse if you're lucky. Depends on where you tapped in for power. Hopefully you tapped in downstream of a fuse which has now popped. If you tapped on a direct connection to the battery you may have blown a fuseable link but normally you would have started a fire with tiny wires like those on a backup camera.

What did you use to check the fuses? Sometimes a visual check will miss hairline breaks in the fuse element. Always use an ohm meter to check fuses.

I took your advice and checked every single fuse in the car for continuity, and found a fuse that looked perfectly fine, but was blown. Turns out it was the power mirror fuse (drivers kick panel). Who would have thought that a power mirror fuse would cause half of the car to shut down?
