Default How Much?

I've been contemplating it.. how much are you thinking? I couldn't afford to go with any less than $300.

I feel stupid now. I just found the SONY XPLOD WX-7700MDX . Man that looks awesome inside the Z. I think that would look clean enough for me. I need to find one at a good price now.

Nissan probally charges $1500 for that head unit!! As for it being a POS I think it functions well and looks good for the car!! The Sound it the complaint that I hear not the look or feel of the head unit. I was thinking of just replacing the amps and speakers to retain a factory look!! THat SONY XPLOD WX-7700MDX is a BAD **** though!! I would switch to that if I was going change the HU.

True, that particular Sony is one badass HU. Too bad they don't make a US version. The only version currently being made requires an FM modification to the unit to make it compatible with US based radio stations. This mod is not cheap. I will agree that the Bose HU looks good in the car. However, as I found out, to have a good sounding stereo, you will have to eliminate all portions of the Bose system, as they are for the most part low end components. I thought the head unit was decent, but after I upgraded everything else (amps, speakers, wiring, etc), the head unit was making my new equipment sound pretty bad. So, I upgraded my head unit, and I have been very happy since.

I stand corrected. I just figured you trashed the whole system 1st. My friend has an X5 that he kept the stock head unit in and switched out the speakers and amps. It sounds amazing! I didn't realize that the HU is shitty too.

The appearance of the head unit is fine by me, and I liked the idea of having a 6 disk changer up front, but after I added all of my initial sound upgrades (amps and speakers) and it still sounded crappy, I had no choice but to change it out too. I have heard some other Bose systems that sound ok, but I still feel that the Z has one of the worst Bose systems ever developed...

Here is a pic of my upgraded amp rack:

I love your subbox!! That looks sweet! Do you have any finished pictures? I was thinking of something similar with 2 12's maybe 1 on each side. Although I also like the under the strut tower look facing the rear!

I like the strut tower box too, but I didn't want my sub box to take up most of my hatch. The strut tower box probably sounds the best too, especially since the subs are loaded off the back of the car. But, I will say that its hard to tell I only have 1 10" sub in the hatch with the amount of bass output I am getting from it.

As for as putting a 12" sub in the sidewell locations...that would be a tight squeeze, due to overall mounting depth. The right side well of the hatch houses the jack, and tire changing equipment, in a foam block. My enclosure replaced this foam block on the left side, but that foam wasn't being used for anything anyways, so out it went...I guess if you have AAA, you could get rid of the spare and jack, but I opted to keep all of that stuff, just in case.

Thanks for the compliment, but I honestly feel that doing anything using a 12" sub outside of replacing the spare with a sub enclosure will be difficult in the Z...

I have 2 Boston Pro series 12.4 sitting in my garage!! Don't tell me that! I dont want to kill my spare! Boston told me they require a 1 CF sealed box. I was going to try to make an enclosure under the strut bar! The question is how far back is the spare tire compartment (haven't even looked yet).

For the most part, the spare tire well goes from the rear-most portion of the hatch, and ends at the front side of the strut bar. There is tons of room under the false floor for anything you can think of, but that area is almost completely taken up with the spare. I would hate to tell you that you may have to get rid of it, but doing 1 12" would be a challenge, let alone 2 of them. If you are even considering the hatch side wells, like mine, you will be out of luck. My 10W6 required .625-.75 cuft, and I used that entire area where the foam piece is, right up to the edge of the spare, and I had trouble getting .75 cuft in that space. I have very close to .65 cuft in the fiberglass enclosure I made.

Hopefully the install under the strut bar would work out...I would hate to see you have to sell those killer Boston Pro subs, and settle for something less...
