Default Upgraded sub JL Audio 10W6v2's are great !!!

I have another thread posted in these forums with my complete audio system upgrade detailed. I also have another post that shows exactly how I built this custom subwoofer enclosure.

I have made a few changes to my original design:
1. Upgraded to 1 JL 10W6v2-D4
2. Custom carpet arrived

The JL 10W6v2 fit depth-wise, but that speaker is 10.5" wide, so I had to modify my top baffle slightly to get the proper fit. The frost leather interior is difficult to match as far as carpet goes, and this was the closest match I could find. The carpet is called "Ocean Grey", and was ordered from http://www.selectproducts.com. It is from their premium line, and unfortunately is not as easy to work with as the cheap stuff. I had to use a broom handle to work the carpet into the curves of the enclosure, and I used some good high tack 3m spray adhesive.

Anyways, here it is...it's done, and it totally rocks, this sub blows the 10W6's away, and I can only imagine what a 10w7 would do in a Z.

That sounds great. Your setup looks awesome. Stop getting me excited (j/k), I still have a few months before I can get my system.

Are you able to take the box in and out easily? I was thinking of making an enclosure like that for my Z, with the same sub. Also how do the JL speakers sound? Does the sub kill the tweet from the speakers?

Goofy1477...
I can remove the box in less than 5 minutes. Once I have the hatch carpetting and false floor out, then I remove the spare. Once the spare is out, the box slides right out. It is a tight fit in the corner, and it is snug on all sides, so there is no vibration or rattle associated with the enclosure.

This 10W6v2 sub provides alot of output when combined to my Phoenix Gold amp, but I have plenty of equalization and with the addition of the low pass level control, I can adjust the amount of bass I have--a little, or ALOT. Yes, it can drown out the mids and tweets in front, but I don't have mine setup that way. Overall, the sound from JL speakers I have is great, and I am very pleased with my system and component selection.

do you have any pictures with the spare tire out, mainly the box view? I think you have a great setup, and I would like to see how hard is it to mount a box there.

I currently have a 12W3 in a custom box that sits in the spare tire area, and I have to take my spare tire out.. I want to be able to have the spare tire and the bass that JL provides...if all possible.

thanks!

I will get a few pics this week of the spare tire well, and the box in its location. Its really just a perfect fit and its not mounted or screwed down at all. Its not real light with the sub mounted, so it stays there easily, but the fit is exact so it does not vibrate or move around at all. I guess I made a good initial mold. Too bad I have no means of mass producing these, it seems like there is some general interest...

Look for some pics later this week of the spare area. I am installing a backup camera in the tire well this week, so I will have to take the spare out to do the work, so its no big deal to get a few more pics. The whole process of removing the box takes about 3-4 minutes, max.
