air space behind drivers seat
Hey does anybody know how much airspace is behind the drivers seat in the compartment where they put the bose 10" sub?? I'm thinking of trying to put a JL 10W7 in there If I cant fit it. What do yall think?? And does that panel come off easily??

There's a bunch of space.
The JL woofer is designed to work in a sealed box.
The area behind the seats is not a sealed box.
You can build a custom box in there but it's a bunch of work.
Getting into that area requires a bit of work - you remove teh sides, front, and top to get into that area.

I don't know how big the sub is but I do know there should be plenty of room back there. I pulled mine apart just to see what was there. There is a lot of room there. You may have to make a custom mounting bracket for it though.

If I remember correctly, that enclosure was right about 0.70 ft³ sealed. The Peerless XLS driver was picked because the actual frame and motor assembly tapered down, and it had a shallow mounting depth (~4.5" if I remember correctly). The original idea was to use an Infinity Perfect subwoofer, but that speaker was just too deep and the motor and basket assembly didn't taper as much.
I've had the 12W7 before and I would definately not go with a W7 only because they need a much bigger area to work with. Physically they are huge, and airspace wise you don't have enough room back there. If you want JL Audio I'd stick with the W3.

Thanks guys...Ill definitly take all of that into consideration...Ill let yall know what happens...If I dynomat the space will it make it sealed enough?? or will I still have to build a custom enclosure to seal it off??

Thats the only picture I could find, but it sorta gives you an idea of what you'll be looking at. Sheets of Dynamat won't create a sealed environment so you will have to think about a custom enclosure.

The enclosure has to be perfectly air tight and not only that, it has to be rigid so much so that the sides don't breathe. Of course the thing has to be a certain volume size to get the correct sound. See Thiel and Small's work.

keep in mind that you will need about 1.35 cu. ft of air total inside the box (sub displaces about .1 cu ft) for this to sound right.
The way I plan on doing it once the car goes into the garage for the winter is to just create a mould of the interior of that compartment and see what the largest volume I can make would be.
