Default Looking for Nav System for 06 350ZR

Hi there,

I was wondering what DVD/Navigation system you guys recommend. Also does anyone have pictures of how they have their NAV set up?? I have the 06 350ZR Enthusiast model. And most Navi systems play music and stuff, so what would i do with the factory unit that i play my music in??

Kind of stupid to have 2 units. I was wanting to put the new DVD/Navi where the factory Navi goes. Please help.

If there is one thing that I wished I had done differently it would have been to get the factory Nav. There really are two reasons for this:

1) The cost would not have been noticeable since it would have been a very insignificant % of the total financed.

2) The biggest issue I see with these DD units is that they are so darn low. Just makes no sense to me. They should be where the factory unit would have gone.

I have determined that these I could better spend the money somewhere else on this car. In my opinion what they are asking for these systems is just too darn much for a toy. That really is what these things are. Nothing more.

Still, Can't go wrong with a Pioneer Z-1 if you can get around the low screen thing.

I also just started doing research on this for my 06. I dont know anything about car electronics. But i'm looking for a DVD nav LCD screen that would go into the compartment for the OEM DVD. And yea, what would you do w/ the stock stereo unit below the compartment?

Well if you're going OEM Navi DVD then you'd keep your stock stereo unit as the DVD Navi unit only plays navigation DVD discs.
There is no menu option on the screen to listen to music. Just maintance info, navigation directions.

Search for a Kenwood touch screen (screen only and the NAV unit). Leave the factory radio and use the screen as nav only. That way its not a bulky (all in 1) radio and you can mount it in the factory space. Thats my suggestion for your requirements.

I went a different way. I went with the flip out single din unit w. nav. (Puts the screen at a better height). And in the pocket (factory nav location)above I mounted a 5 1/4" for the center channel for the full 5.1 surround.

you really should have researched this a bit more and you would have found a whole lot of info. first, its very hard to mount a screen in the cubby where the factory nav goes...i only know one person on here that has installed an aftermarket nav in his cubby SUCCESSFULLY but he had to do a lot of modifications such as cutting/drilling out the back & fiberglassing the inside, and paint match. he's the only one i know that actually didn't have to change out his cover but i know theres a lot of guys that say that have to replace their cubby cover with the 03 cover which does not even match the color of the rest of your interior. though getting a custom screen to fit in your 06 cubby is hard to do and the failure rate is high, it is possible to do with some custom fabrication =] ill try to find that guys nav.

i don't know if this is for everyone, but my '06 is lacking a DVD and navi, but i want to browse the internet, watch my **** on the go, and do other bs with it, so i came up with this idea, CARPUTER, they have small ones that will fit in any of those two compartments, and u can still use the one left over compartment for ur small keyboard + mouse setup, and oh yea its all touchscreen. The main software can handle navigation, mp3s, wmas, dvd, vcds, u name it, it does it. It's a freking computer with freking everything u can freaking put on it... i know of a great place in maryland who make these things and are known for their work with our beloved Z! There site is http://www.mp3car.com

Now heres what u will need, the basic little computer with some good ram... a touch screen monitor... GPS antenna (if u want navi)... a frontal software... navi software (microsoft has one really cool one)... windows ofcourse... and there r so many things that can be added... anyway call them up, and tell them folks what u need, they will build it, ship it. And done. And if u want they will install it too. Oh and BTW there is a way to keep ur stock radio and use an FM transmitter for audio. And use the little compartment on top of the radio for ur touchscreen monitor. Cool?

Ok guys. Thanks for all your feedback. I was searching thru this site and this one guy had the screen where the stock factory head unit was. I was thinking of doing it that way too. But i was looking at the Kenwood DVD player with a Navigation kit, and it says that the screen is motorized and slides down when changing CD's..

So i was wondering if it would hit my Temperature control which is right near the shift ****. if it doesnt get in the way i think i might just go with that route. But still i wish peeps had more pictures of their setup but on an '06. If anyone has any suggestions regarding what type of setup i am looking for.... please help.

Thinking of getting the system in 2 weeks after doing all the research. If it can work i will get it.
