Just bought the JL 10w6v2 and I need an amp to go with it.

The JL 500/1 amp is too expensive,

I was thinking the alpine MRP-M650 is in the exact price range but it doesnt look the best. Please advise.

Depending on where you mount the ugly amplifier nobody will ever know what it looks like. If the JL is the better amplifier why not just wait another paycheck or two to get the one you really want?

 

+1......when it comes to performance, looks are insignificant. I say buy the one that is in your price range, and if you dont like it, mount it somewhere that it can not be seen.

Take a look at Hifonics.

Edit: Look at the TXI7506 model. It puts out 500w RMS at 2 ohms. So it would be just about perfect and you can get it for less than $200.

 

Alpine makes a very good amp. Nice, clean power and at a good price. I had a JL 300/4 and it was awesome, but it started having problems. I installed an Alpine amp and it actually had a cleaner sound to it. The problem with the Slash series of JL amps is tuning them properly can be a ***** if you do it yourself.

 

I went with Pheonix Gold Octane R 8.01, hopefully that will do
