Default Factory Navigation (I'm sure this has been asked millions of times by now)

I'm sure this has been asked over a million times, but can movies be viewed on the factory navigation, like bypass the system so this can be done while driving? I figured this has been beaten into the ground, but I couldn't find the post about this

I am currently embarking on this myself.

First off you need a switch box to beable to switch between nav disc to aux imput. check out http://www.tvandnav2go.com/ to purchase their unit.

it cost 200 bucks for non-plug and play - ie 4 wires need to be cut and spliced in.

or 250 for plug and play version.

Also, then you need aux imput for secondary signal - example - im using an Xbox in the glove box behind the passenger seat. I ran 8 gage wiring and installed a power inverter in there to power it.

HEre is where i got my info. follow this site:
http://home.comcast.net/~jcage89/navbox/

You do however need to mod the x box inorder to play dvd's on xbox. i choose the x box because i plan on modding the Harddrive to a huge one to have movies and mp3's, and windows media files on it saved and easy access. the mod chip you need is: SmartXX v3.0 mod chip with the Xapt3r for about $74 - see www.mod-chip.com

NExt you need The XBMC software is not included. You have to find it for yourself. - just google for "xbmc download"

http://www.mod-chip.com/Lite/How_To_...ox_Version.pdf

Very easy. And we have easy to follow step by step manuals.
The chip loads a new Bios (=Operating System) to the system. Its like a new windows for your computer.

any other questions let me know.

Thanks for the help, I didn't realize how in-depth this mod really is, I just thought I could install something and go from there.

nope. not at all easy, but im sure worth it. i like the idea of utilizing the nav screen for more......

Im doing it in phases. I bought the xbox months ago for a 100 bucks with about 5 games at a pawn shop. then from JCAGE web site i went out and bought the door bell for like 15 bucks at home depot and installed that. so now my x box turns on remote controlled wise.

then i went out and bought a power inverter. i got it on sale for like 26 bucks. 400 watt. then one day during my lunch break i went down the street to the car audio place and bought about 20 bucks of 8 gage wire and $13 fuse box and ran the wiring.

So now i need the tvandnav2go box - which im finally purchasing this week.
next im gonna go to radio shack and buy the rca to 3.5 mm adapter so i can use my tape deck head unit for the sound. and thats temporary until i get the www.pac-audio.com AAI-NIS2 which cost like $100 on ebay to handle the sound.

so darnn!!!

Geez, so you are looking at over $300 just for parts to watch a movie on the nav screen. I really wanted to do this but for that much that is almost there to buying an indash headunit with a screen!

im almost complete with my set up.. too bad navbox isn't available anymore, it was $100 less than tvnav2go. all in all my set up would total to about $800..

tvnav2go
xbox
inverter
back up camera
switches
cables/wires
wire taps

IMO the cost is not too bad to have a factory look a/v entertainment system in your car. I only have the parts for now and havent started with any of the install.. i plan to wire the xbox power button on one of the homelink button.

You dont need to. you can have the xbox remote control turn on with the home link button by installing a wireless door bell in the xbox. I did it!

This is my set up:
tvnav2go
xbox
xbox modded to remote control power on and off with homelink.
xbox mod chip
power inverter - 400watt
switches
cables/wires
wire taps

im planning on doing a really detailed "HOW TO" when its all over.

Also, I agree, its not too expensive to have that kind of video set up in a car with the factory look, ie no one to look in and see indash dvd set up and break into your car. thats the main reason for me and i wanted to get the most use out of my nav screen. this mod just allows me to do more.

Just buy a new dvd head unit with a 7" lcd screen. Plus it looks really cool when you have two screens.
