What kind of speakers do you recommend?
Ok so I don't have my Z yet, but im definitely going to get an 07 hatchback. I'm just trying to do some research now so I'm prepared. I've searched through other threads, but i'm still kind of confused at what I need.
Assuming that the 07's has the same stereo/speaker system as the 06's, what kind of speakers do you recommend for just sound. I'm probably going to get an alpine face (one of the new ones that works with the ipod) and I already have a 1000x1 amp and two solobaric 10'' l7's. Bass is definitely not an issue as far as speakers go because ill have more than enough from my subs.
I'm looking for speakers that will be loud enough to hear clearly over my subs. I listen to mostly rap music, so that means there will be plenty of bass. So do I need component speakers or are components better if im looking for bass (which im not) ? I've also read that magnet depth is an issue so will i be needing one of nazars door panels? Like i said before, all im looking for is good sound quality to go along nicely with my subs.... any advice?

Does rap music use anything but bass speakers?
I recommend that you haul your music collection off to a store and give some various brands some A:B comparison time. If you stick with 6.5" speakers you'll find that almost every manufacture sells one in that size. Brands tend to sound about the same up and down their line but that said, a nice $400 speaker pair from an "off-brand" is likely to sound better than a $60 pair from a name brand.
When I was shopping I cut a CD with some of the music that I knew would test the ability of the speakers and went door-to-door shopping listening to a bunch of 6.5" component speakers in the $300 range. You have to listen to the speakers side-by-side as the ear has a very short memory. I found that the Infinity Reference Kappa's were pleasing to my musical tastes and built my system around them.
ETA: Once you find the 6.5" speaker that you like get it to fit in the door either straight up, with a spacer, or in a pod.
It's your ears that you're trying to please ... not mine.

Thanks for the advice paul. Yeah, just like you said, rap has so much bass and I'm just worried that i get hear the music over my subs. Do component speakers get louder than regular speakers?
I've been doing some research and it seems like a lot of people recommend the infinity kappa components. Do you think I will need an amp to power those or will an upgraded HU work?

Go to a store and check them out in person. People here really like the expensive sets of components. I can anthing over about $100 expensive but some here think that anything under $300 is a cheap crap set. Most components don't necessarily get louder but they are clearer and can often times handle more power.
If you want them loud you def need a 2 or 4 channel amp in addition to your sub amp.

for a set of 6.5 inch infinity kappa component speakers... what kind of amp do you think i should use? Also, if i got compenents... would i need to replace the rears as well? Ive read that some people think its not even worth it. what kind of amp? 4 channel? 2 channel? Im a newb to this if you couldnt tell.. lol.
Also just a rough guess, but what do you think i should pay to get subs, components, cd player, sub amp, component amp, and wires would cost? There is no way im messing around with wires for a brand new car when i have no idea what im doing and i definitely think having it professionally done is worth it. There is a place down the street from me that i know does a pretty good job. What do you think a job like that would cost for installation. I know all places or different but i dont feel like going in yet when i dont even have the car yet. This is just out of curiosity.
here a link to the kappas... Im just using them for reference

I spent about $2500 and did all the work myself. You can drive the speakers with the head-end as most have a nice 20 watts worth of honest power. Amplifiers tend to group in two sizes around 40-50 watts per channel and then again at twice that at 80-120 watts per channel. Sure sounds like a big jump from 20 watts up to 120 watts but honestly it's not much.

That's due to the inverse square law where you have to double the size in watts of the amplifier to get just 3 dB more worth of sound. Some home amplifiers have click stop volumes set 3 dB between clicks. My home amplifier has 0.5 dB per steps and I can't hear that little of a change - most people will notice a 2 dB change. So a 3 dB change in maximum amplitude is just a bit more volume. If you're one of the idiots who drive around with the volume control cranked to 11 enjoy your life long hearing loss and the tinnitus as it drives you slowly insane.
I went with 110 watts per front speakers for the improved sound quality. The extra +3 dB lends headroom for dynamics - instantaneous peak surges.
I run my volume about 85% to the front and about 15% to the rear. I got nice components for the front and some cheap rear speakers just for a bit of fill in.

If you have only 2 front door speakers you can get a 2 channel amp. If you are running rear speakers you can get a 4 channel. To save some money you could use the new head unit to run the rears and get a 2 channel for the fronts.
Go to www.woofersetc.com to get some prices. There are some other places but I forget what they are now.

Theoretically, the loudest speaker should be the set with the highest "sensitivity" with the highest rms power handling. Just make sure the set of components you are looking at is a credible company that doesnt inflate the specs.
heh i have 1500$ in my system with no componets..... My sub is so damn loud it drowns out the highs. I blew 2 subs up before i bought a crossfire. Crossfire rules. I will be buying componets from them with nazars door panels once my engine is done, and another amp, then car pc, hopefully someone buys my kidney by then for turbos.
