Default Homelink

I can't seem to get the Homelink to program. I follow the instructions in the manual. The thing I notice that differs from the manual is that the light flashes rapidly after holding down the 2 outside buttons as directed by the manual. The books indicates it should blink slowly. I do have a relatively new opener and it does have the rolling code. I had no trouble programming my old car which had HomeLink also. Has anyone else had similar problems?

Ssutton,

I just installed a new opener with the rolling code and my did the same thing. What you need to do is after you have "programed" the homelink button you need to program the opener to recognize the the homelink signal. Find the program button on the opener and press it until it starts flashing. Then press the homelink button that you programed, then press it again and the door should recognize your opener and operate. This may differ slightly based on what door opener you have. Check the manual but it will work fine.

Cheers.

Yeah follow the manual closely. Also, hold your remote under the mirror to have a direct view of the black dots that are the Homelink. Hold the button on the remote and the cleared Homelink button you want to use. If you hold the remote in front of the mirror all the signal will reflect away from the Homelink dots. When the lights flash appropriatley, hit the button on the garage door motor for the rolling code and run into your car and press the programmed button repeatedly (hold for a second and release) until the garage door moves. It took me 3 or 4 tries over a few days to get it. The main difference being where I held the remote when programming the windsheild. It feels like you are typing in a code for Contra 50 lives or something. Up down up down left right left right A B A B select start or whatever it was. Anyone remember that?

Another tip I would add (and this is in the manual) is that you may find it useful to have 2 people. One person presses the homelink while the other presses the button on the opener. You may want to consult your garage door opener manual because on my unit if you hold the button down for 5 seconds it will erase all the codes and every remote has to be reprogrammed to the unit.
