Not really... Just convenience... These subs are high quality and self-amplified. Easy - And puts out high-end sound. If I had to do it again, I'd lose the spare, and go more custom to save on cargo space and improve the sound even more... :-)

I'm running a single 10" many of you would describe it as "crap" Pioneer TSW256DVC, along with a Pioneer amp GM-7200 and it is waaaaaayyyyyy more than I need. It hits nice, but doesn't drown out the music. IMO single 10 whatever you go with should be fine, but do what makes you feel good.
I have those pioneer subs in my girls car and they sound great. honda accord coupe.
