dynamat delirium
ok, dynamat or not? i just put 4 sq ft of dynamat xtreme in my trunk, which is a real small space, but already hear the diff outside, better bass, but still nasty quarter panel rattle. will it really decrease all rattle if i dynamat the whole trunk space? whos done this? or is it a waste of money and dead weight? it sounds beautiful inside, cant even hear the rattle. but i dont want to hear beautiful while others hear blaaaaahhh blaaaaaahh. get it? worth the money/time of taking apart my system? thanks.
If you're having trouble with rattling specifically, try Second Skin Audio, they have rattle pad, which I used to wuite some ratlles in the rear hatch. Dynamat dampens by increasing mass, which lowers the frequency of the resonance. That won't always remove a rattle (especially if the rattle is produced by two objects vs. one object resonating). If you want a cheaper alternative try felt between the panels where they touch.

here is my experience with the Z and rattles...
there are a lot of it...
but, one thing that doesnt rattle is the floor pan in the trunk, its thick enough metal that unless you dont have a subbox bolted down on it and the box is bouncing, that part doesnt rattle...
major sources of rattle:
1. all the plastic panels between the trunk and the back seat. to do it properly put one layer of dampening on the metal surfaces, then put foam on the plastic pieces to prvent rubbing vibrations. this is wher ei suggest Edead, its thin enough to do this, the edead v4 is a sticky backed foam whcih works well on plastic panels. RAAMMAT is also excellent, and heavier than Edead, so each layer will make a slightly better difference, but it is a bit more money and i dont suggest it on anywhre there is a tight clerance.
2. doors...if you wanna go all out, dampening heavily both the plastic door panel AND the metal door itself.
3. misc outside stuff, bumpers, spoilers, quater panels, exhausts, suspension, there is only so much you can do. I usually dont tell people to put expanding foam to put the gaps, becuase if you get into an accident, and someome has to try and take off your bumper, they may be in for a long day and then charge you a ton... at the end of the day, if these things are rattling, i hoesntly dont know if there is much you can do...but to be honest, unless you have a super strong sub system in there, it doesnt seem to be a huge deal...and if you have say two w7s wtih 2000 watts in a Z, something is going to rattle, no matter what you do

I have somewhere around 3-4 layers of deading throughout the car and my rattle on the outside is still noticeable, but it by no means sounds like a 92 honda civic bumping down the road. Like bing says, depending on what your going to put in your car your going to have rattle. Investment in sound deading though makes a night and day difference. Invest in alot of square feet and use multiple layers and you won't be dissapointed. My biggest complaint is the door handles. Havn't found a way to stop that and it annoys the crap out of me when my windows are down, and this is while the system is at a very conservative sound level.
