DNX7100 Review
^^^ Thanks for the reply and the pic.
Just in case someone reading this thread doesn’t know why I asked about the SD slot:
The Kenwood DNX 7100 navigation module does not use DVDs to load application software or map data. Instead, Kenwood chose Garmin as its OEM supplier and licenses the maps from NAVTEQ; and the application software and maps reside in ROM. That means the entire navigation system runs off a memory chip, and that is why it is so fast. Using a SD slot makes it very easy to update the application software and map data. You simply go to Garmin’s website where you can download the latest application software and map data. After doing the download, you write the new files to a SD, and insert the newly written disk into the SD slot on the Kenwood DNX 7100. The DNX 7100 automatically reads the new disk, and does the update. I recently did this (downloaded an update for the navigation module). It was easy (I did it on my computer on the Internet), fast (it took just a few minutes), and provided a valuable update (that included better screen graphics and an update of the NAVTEQ map data base). That was so much better than waiting for a DVD in the mail, and paying for the DVD and shipping.

EDIT: For clarification... I did my update using the SD slot on a Garvin GVN 52. It is exactly the same procedure and arrangement on the Kenwood KNA-G510 Navigation "Black Box," or the Kenwood DNX 7100.

THE TECH and I have managed to add some confusion to the OP's excellent Thread (this Thread) by discussing a different configuration for Kenwood products that is on a different Thread. Where the THE TECH mentions removing the Farenheit, he is referring to this Thread:

In answer to your question: The DNX7100 displays navigation on its double-din screen and cannot send its navigation display to another screen.

This is the standard safety feature that will only allow the DVD to play when the parking brake in on. To defeat this, simply run that wire to ground.

I'll post a response on Mando's thread.
