E brake cable
i just got installed a flip-out dvd player. the guy doing the install said that he couldn't find the e-brake cable for the life of him. now when i try to play dvds it says it is unlawful to play a dvd while the car is in motion without the emergency brake on. does anyone know where the cable is or a diagram of where it is so i can show it when i take it back? thanks
I have no other ideas man. I can honestly say Ive never dealt with those. So Im not sure what else to tell you other than look up a dealer for them (NOT Circuit City, preferably a private one) and ask them. Circuit City hooked it up Lawfully. Sorry man.

There is the pdf of the manual. Simply grounding the wire is not good enough. On page 31 it describes the procedure for viewing video from the dvd. If you install a switch between ground and the yellow and blue wire you will be able to simulate the ebrake sequence. That should get you what you want.

Otherwise there is a link to a thread that I can't access at work due to firewall restrictions that describes the procedure for permantly disabling the brake function on your dvd player

i just tried that forum.ecoustics.com site and kept searching around. found out there's a code you can input to bypass the parking brake entirely. thanks for your help everyone, especially tattoo. finally can watch a dvd
tattoo you seem to know alot about these in dash dvd players. I have a pioneer dvh-p7000 in dash player that was installed by previous owner. Right now the monitor is hooked up to rear so passenger can watch while driving but the sound only comes out the rear spearks obviously and I don't think you can change that. So I want to hook it up to the front monitor so sound will come out all speakers. From the installation manual there is a light green wire that taps into the power from the ebrake switch. From that switch is there power to that wire when the e-brake is up or down. Just curious if I could just ground that light green wire and make the front monitor work. Thanks.
Merlin3,
I don't really "know" anything about in dash DVD, i'm just familiar with bypass solutions, and how to find them. The one thing that I've noticed across all of the product lines is that simply grounding the e-brake wire is not a sufficient solution. The manufacturers obviously saw that as being too simple of a bypass and therefor opening them up to liability for accidents caused by installations that "easily" bypass their safety feature.
The common solution seems to be a cycle of E-brake on, pause for 1 second, E-brake off, pause for 1 second, E-brake on steady. By making the wire change states by actuating and releasing the E-brake it forces you to work around their safety by alternate means. Many people use a switch hooked up to ground on one side and the brake wire to the radio on the other. By actuating the switch to the set pattern you can "fool" the unit into believing the E-brake is on.
Pioneer requires you to register for their corporate site before they will allow you to view thier PDF files. Unfortunatly I cannot do that until I get home after midnight CDST. I will look and see if I can find a software bypass for your unit that will solve all of your problems. I'll reply again later with my findings.

well in my manual I don't see anywhere where it says I have to release or re-engage parking brake. And there's just one wire that ties into the power wire on the e-brake. It appears that the wire it ties into is the power wire that puts the little light on the dash when the e-brake is engaged. So if I just hook that e-brake wire up to 12v ignition wire I would assume that would bypass it but I could be wrong. I'll go out and take my voltmeter and take a little look at what that e-brake wire does.
Merlin,
Typically the e-brake wire is led to ground. So if you hook it up to 12 VDC it likely won't do anything for ya. What you will likely see is a reading of 12 VDC on the e-brake wire referenced to chassis ground when the brake is not engaged and 0 VDC referenced to ground when the brake is engaged.
