Default Whats wrong with my speaker?

I have alpine type r components, more specifically the spr 176a. I notice that the left 6 1/2 speaker is no longer loud, it is very low. The cone does not move, but when you touch it you can feel it vibrating. Did I blow it? I was running this off a pioneer head unit. What do you guys think is wrong? Thanks

I forgot to mention what i did already. I tried connect it directly to the headunit wires, connected it to the other side wires and had the wires connected to the left speaker connect to the right speaker and that works fine. So I am thinking it is the speaker, but anyone know specifically what problems it could be?

if what you did was hook up left side wires to the right side

and hooked up right side wires to the left all this would do is reverse your balance

again in you wiring at some point you may have left something loose

check mid range , crossover , tweeter wires on both sides

and check wire behind head unit

do this 1st

if you already did this than it may very well be the speaker or a short

What I meant to say was, lol, I switched speakers. I checked the connections and they are all in the right way. I also used different wires and switched crossovers. 350zspl, when you say short, a short in the speaker? What do you mean? Thanks for all the help guys

I'll give that a try when it gets nicer around here, its been really nasty lately. What do you guys think of this combination then, because I will replace the type r anyways, not my kind of sound:

Infinity Reference 6010cs components
http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Refer...7618371&sr=8-1

Paired with either an AUDIOBAHN A4002T
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-AUDIOBAHN-A4...QQcmdZViewItem

or

Profile HA1040
http://www.amazon.com/Profile-HA1040...7619773&sr=8-1

Thanks again guys

i would stay away from profile as i think it is a flea market type unit , you might get engine noise

the audiobahn is one step above flea market and probably won't yeild engine noise

either amp is not money well spent

what do you want to spend for a mid and high amp ?
2 channel or 4 channel ?
how much power do you want to provide ?

Infinty speakers are a good choice , not my choice , but a good choice

Lol, I thought that was funny, because there is this really big flea market near my house. I don't want to spend more than $100 for a 2 channel amp, anywhere around 50 rms per channel up to 100 rms.

you may want at least 75 watts rms to your components

if you want a 2 channel you may like these

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+KAC-6202.html

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...t+PCA+265.html

my choice in 2 ch would be

2005 model
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...nch+P3002.html

2006 model
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...07+Model-.html

if you decide you want a 4 channel so you can power your front stage and rear fill plus be able to balance and fade

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+GM-6200F.html

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...kt+THA475.html

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...BL+CS60.4.html

my choice would be

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ch+P450.4.html

but either way all would be better than profile and audiobahn

Thanks 350zspl, I bought Infinity Reference 6010cs Components for $115 on amazon and bought the Blaupunkt 4 channel amp. What do you think of that combo? I am going to take out the speakers in about a week and go to a shop to get them tested to see if they could find out what is wrong. I have an alpine mrd-501 mono amplifier, 275 watts rms, I think I am going to get a kenwood marine subwoofer thats free air compatible and put it in the stock bose subwoofer spot.

well the blaupunkt was in your $100 budget , is new , and will be better than , a profile , or a audiobahn , for your front mids and highs

why the interest in a Marine Sub

The main reason I was looking at this particular sub is because it has decent reviews from crutchfield, it is free air, and it can handle my amplifier. My amplifier is 275 watt rms alpine mono sub amp. Its pretty cheap too, i heard the bose sub, and it is ok to me, so even this sub should be a lot better than that. I am trying to use a lot of my old stuff and stay relatively cheap. If i mount it in the stock location, it would be easy and save me the trouble of getting a box and it maintains my trunk space, which I really need.

What do you think?

well i think you can try it
like you said quick , easy and cheap , and save trunk space

if you are not satisfied than we can cross that bridge if and when we get there

go for it

you should at the very least do a search for free air subs see what comes up and compare price
