xm or sirius???
hey guys im thinkin about getting xm or sirus in my z which one do you guys think is better for music. I dont care about talk shows or anything like that i just want the one with best music options thanks just looking for opinions here thanks again.
i've listened to both a lot and i personally like serius better but that's because I like both Howard Stern and Shade 45. as for music, i wouldn't really say there's too much of a difference. they both have a lot of stations for each genre of music and everything. But if your just going for music, if i knew what kind of music you liked i could help you more cuz i listen to lots of different music so i've sampled many stations, but i think xm might be better for just music. the choice not matter for that long tho cuz the 2 companys might merge together.
After selling both xm and sirius for a little over a year ive come to the conclusion the major differance tends to be (as listed above) what you want to listen to. Personally i like xm cause they play more of the music i like. At the same time if you like sports (other than baseball) or Howard Stern you'll more than likely want to pick up Sirius; however, if you are more into music your best bet is to go with XM. Granted in the long run your best bet is to go to both of their websits and sign up for the online listening so that you can get a better idea of what you will like more.

I have XM since I want to listen to NHL Hockey (yes .. I'm a hockey fan) .... but my musical preference is for Sirius....but XM was only $77 for the year so I took it
sorry guys i know it is personal opinion but ive had xm and i didnt think it was that great this was way back when it first came out though. Ive never heard sirius so just was trying to see what everybody thought of the two. My dad told me theres some pretty good comedy on sirius too that might be a plus. i think im gonna go with sirius though somethin kinda different. Thanks for all the responses and opinions.

I've had both and sell both, installed all kinds of receivers and from a hardware standpoint, Xm hardware hands down. The extra time they have in this arena shows when you look at the technology. I have a Z1 w/Xm Nav traffic and satellite in the Z and a Myfi in my Xterra. Wouldn't trade them for anything (except a Z2 in the Xterra)
XM uses 2 satelites orbiting over the equator...Sirius uses 3 rotating in a figure 8 configuration over the norther hemisphere (sp). Sirius also sounds better. I dont care for either, but most of my customers prefer sirius for 2 major reasons. Sound quality, and up here in Seattle with our SHOULD BE 2006 super bowl champ seahawks......NFL is the deal breaker, only available on Sirius
Regarding the above post...the hard ware is EXACTLY THE SAME both using tuners usually made by dei. as for NAV traffic......it has nothing to do with either satelite radio company, it has to do with Pioneer's decision to partner with XM in terms of compatiblty

Wrong
DEI makes the bulk of Sirius receivers and Delphi makes the bulk of the XM components tuners. Your smokin something if you think the hardware sirius is giving away can come anywhere near the quality of the XM hardware (How about those really cool S50's?

Nav Traffic is an exclusive XM provided service, the signal with updated traffic information is provided to my pioneer Z1 via ...SATELITE, so I guess you could say it has a little to do with XM. It is called XM Navtraffic, not Pioneer nav traffic
If your gonna trash the competition, get your facts straight

I'm not "trashing" the competition. My opinion is unbiased.
Taffic services are available on NUMEROUS nav systems...not just Pioneer and XM. XM does use 3 satelites, i made a mistake...but, they are still rotating over the Equator vs a figure 8 configuration over the northern hemishpere.
There is 1 point in my previous thread which are the most import, you falied to touch...
Sound Quality - But seeing you own a Z1...Sound quality is obviously not important
I should also state that i have niether.....I dont think I have paid for music since i have been in high school and don't see the point. I had the choice to use sirius or XM at no charge, and used Sirius for about a day or 2 before I dumped it. Why state all this - to show my opinion is unbiased

I hope these two companies (XM and Sirius) can create a "merger plan" that satisifies the FTC. As competitors, Sirius and XM are diluting the satellite marketplace (it's just too new a concept right now to support both companies). The competition for satellite radio is terrestrial radio (and the new promise of HD radio). HD terrestrial radio is just more of the same (lots of advertising time per hour). And, iPod users almost never listen to the radio at all.
Good post with accurate information.

Both companies provide great entertainment without the 20 minutes of advertising per hour you endure listening to terrestrial radio.

Our sales of satellite receivers is WAY down from last year, hell.. Sirius used to pay a commission on units sold but they've been stiffing the store I work at for a year and a half now. At this point I have to wonder if even a merger can help them fight other options like iPods and onboard HDD's.
