Our sales of satellite receivers is WAY down from last year, hell.. Sirius used to pay a commission on units sold but they've been stiffing the store I work at for a year and a half now. At this point I have to wonder if even a merger can help them fight other options like iPods and onboard HDD's.
Sales for satellite radio are down for a good reason: Buyers are confused (Sirius, XM, or a combination if the FTC approves the merger).

Currently there are two solutions, and it is not obvious which direction you should go. This is certainly "stalling" sales for both companies. When the FTC approves the merger (and they will) you will see satellite radio "take-off."

actually XM's satelites are placed better than Sirius's. While sirius has theirs moving in a figure 8 it causes them to have up two 2 of their 3 satelites turned off at any given time due to them not having permision to broadcast a signal over any area other than the US. In other words as soon as they pass US terratory (sorry i really cant spell) they are turned off. I know that doesn't make any sense but other governments (i.e. any country the US isn't in good standings with) thinks they may use the satelites to spy.

XM on the other hand does have their satelites rotating on the equator however they rotate at the same speed as Earth so they are always over the the use (one over the east, one over centeral, and one over west).

Also with sound quality after all the cars ive installed them in it tends to be the same and all depends on how its installed be it using the the fm transmitter built into the unit its self, using a fm direct adaptor or hardwired into the stero.

*edit Also in the long it is personal preferace. If you didn't like XM the first time you had it chances are you wont like it the second time so just save yourself the money and headace and go with sirius if your dead set on having it. That or you just listen to the free trial (if they are still doing it haven't checked on it recently) and listen and see if you really like it enough to pay for it.
