Hi all,

I want to remove the foam blocks from the hatch area tonight so I figured I'd ask here how they come out to save me some possible frustration.

I know there is one large plastic screw on each side that is readily visible, but didn't notice any other mounting points during the quick look I took.

Thanks. I may take you up on that. Here is very quick system diagram of my upgrade. The sub is the only ?? part right now. I have nowhere near the talent to do what your shop is doing. Bing or Dom could handle that end of it, I'm sure, so I can't wait to see how they finish your hatch off.

 

I've removed mine a couple times when I was customizing my rear spare tire well box. You are correct on the plastic large headed screw that sits on the top. What you might have difficulty with is pulling the foam peices out though. They sit on top of a bolt that is mounted to the trunk floor. What happens, is when you go to remove them you have to lift the foam up high enough to clear the bolt so you can remove it. But, the problem is that you won't be able to lift it high enough because the side trunk panels prohibit this. The outer edge of the foam is actually wedged up under the side panels. I had to remove the panels to get the foam out. I'm sure you could just use brute force and pull the foam thingys out, that is of course if you don't care about damaging them.

 

Great info.... So I take it if you remove the side panels, then you could remove the foam without much damage?

How are you going to reinforce the chassis? Dynamat or sound deadening "paint"?

 

Not sure yet.

 

I used spray in bedliner through out the trunk floor since there are so many little crevices and uneven spots.. I used Dynamat on the hatch itself.

 

Did you figure an alternate method of storing the jacks and tools such that it doesn't squeak or rattle as well?

I'm just wondering about some little weight savings while using sound dampening material for my next project. It'll still have the trunk mat for the OEM look, but with some stuff underneath removed.

It all goes down the drain once I drop in a 12" sub

 

Not really, I just wrapped the wheel locks and tow hook in a T-shirt then stuffed them down there somewhere. No spare tire, no need for a jack.

I dropped a 12 down there. It hits nasty hard! It's put two 10's to shame. Tr00f.

Time to gut the trunk



Take that **** off



Pop off foam



Then the wheel retainer

Out comes the wheel



Then you have to get this foam stuff off



Make sure to get the remains



Then to get the foam out, there are two plastic screws on the right



And one on the left



Then a bunch of these hooks



Thats what they look like out



I then proceeded to take out the weather striping



Looks like a snake



Its sharp without it



The pile of parts removed is starting to get big



Next we pop out the back piece



The next group of photos are my montage of taking the trunk apart









Doesn't the trunk look clean now?

Do you have links to pics posted here of your 12" install? I'm looking for ideas.

 

I got the foam pieces out without taking out all the trim pieces. Get all the tire related crap out of the way, loosen the panel on the far back (including the hooks for the net) and remove all the fasteners for the foam. Then just start wiggling the pieces out.
