Thumbs up New DNX7100 Software update

Just letting everyone who has the Kenwood DNX7100 NAVI know that there is a new software update available:
http://www8.garmin.com/products/kenwood/
Software version 2.40 dated 5/24/07

Instructions are included with the file but they did not work for me. It calls for creating a folder named "garmin" in the sd card then unzipping the update file into the file then inserting the sd card into the DNX7100. When I did this nothing happened. So instead I unzipped the file directly into the sd card's root directory (i.e. did not create the "garmin" folder" Then it took. Done.

One other note instructions step #9 says that the NAVI will ask if you would like to update software. Well, my unit never asked. As soon as I insert the sd card it automatically updated the software.

Hope that helps and that it will save someone some time.

i tried updating my dnx7100 unit but the update did not take. i tried both update file locations (garmin folder and root) but it still is not working. i insert the sd card and nothing happens. not sure if it makes a difference, but i am using a micro sd card and the sd adapter it came with. don't think it would matter but...

any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

Just want people to know that the free updates on Garmins website are only software updates, they are not mapping updates. They only do slight software changes and does not do anything to update the maps. If you want mapping updates you must pay for these and they are send to you from Garmin on a SD card.

Secure Digital (SD) is a flash (non-volatile) memory card format (the same slot you use in your digital camera... so you may already own this card).

You can purchase this card from BestBuy, CircuitCity, OfficeMax or any digital seller. The 1 GB card is probably the best value and safest media for working with your GPS and also with other devices (i.e., your digital camera).

Updating a Kenwood device is very easy to do.

True: The free updates are software application updates that provide worthwhile enhancements. For example, the latest update improves font and map resolution.

Of course, mapping updates require a payment to support NAVTEQ's continual enhancement of the maps as communities grow and highways change.
