Default Finally Got my opus power supply for the carputer

Well my opus power supply came in yesterday and I got a chance to hook it up today. It works great, Tapped into the Cig lighter wires for Ignition Power and Ground, and the headunit's constant power wire(Does not seem to work yet).

The computer is not mounted in the glove box yet, but will be in the next few days. If I can find out what I did wrong with the constant power wire I will let you guys know how the autoshut down feature works on the PS.

I am so happy to get this part in. I have been waiting 4 weeks for the power supply to get going on the carputer project. I finally have something to show on the 7 inch touchscrren that's been mounted for about a month now.

I will post pics this weekend once I get the computer more secure in the glove box and figure out the wire issue.

Default Any Pictures

Do you have any pictures of this setup yet? Can you fill us in on some more details? I"m looking to do the same thing. I've found a few good leads and I'm looking at the touch screen at www.gnetcanada.com .

Is that the one you have installed? How well does it fit?

When I had a computer in previous car I ran it off of my 4 guage amp wire. Your probably going to want to run something like a 8 gauge wire (maybe slightly less) from the battery to your power supply.

I donno if Id run a computer off the cigerette lighter... those were no bigger than 10 gauge if memory serves, probably 12 gauge. might be a little thin for what is likely 100-150watts.

I talked to you at the Austin Cheddar's meet. What are going to end up doing with that Solobaric? I built a box under the strut tower with my Diamond M6 10D2.

Planning on doing a fiberglass box behind the seats and either have the sub firing backwards or downwards(Have not decided yet). The box will be gell coated and color matched to the car color with the amps mounted one the back under the strut bar.

Will also have custom kicks built for the 4 inch mid and tweet with the 6 Inch in the door(Focal Utopia 165W3's). Taking the car in Monday and it should be done by Friday of next week. I will try to stop by the shop each day and take pics of the install.

Any suggestions on either backwards or downward firing?

Are you going to put any dynamat in there? I wanted to put it behind the driver's seat, but I saw all of that metal and just knew that it would rattle like crazy. I'd probably go downward, since the back will be closed.

When I sad behind the seats I did not mean in the glove box's. It will be between the back of the rear speakers and molded under the strut bar. No sure if you ment the glove boxe or not when you said a ton of metal.

But anyway dynomat would be a good idea, might just see how it comes out first then dynomat it later. I'll run it by the shop and see what the cost would be, if it's too crazy to dynomat that arera I might just do it myself later on.

I thought you meant in spot where the bose sub went. It's fine under the strut tower. I don't have any dynomat. I would go with a rear firing sub.

Where/How did you get the power supply? Opus' website only seems to have phone numbers and email addresses for sales. Did you buy directly from them or does someone else do distribution for them?

I had to send them an email and they sent me a paypal account to use.

Just give Kris at Opus a call. He will take care of you. I received my Opus power supply this week as well. Will hopefully get it all installed on Sat. I will be using an 8 gauge power wire from my distribution block that is under my passenger seat (amp is there) to the glove box where my PC is. I'm stilling thinking of making a rack to put the PC and power supply on since I don't think I am going to try and cram the power supply inside of the case. I'm thinking of adding some additional fans in the glove box as well....it gets pretty damn hot here in Texas in the summer.

Any ideas on keeping it cool?

I had to add fans to my amps from the heat down here. I put two 80mm computer fans blowing on my two amps. I'm sure your going to need good cooling in the Texas heat. The heat is one of the reasons I decided against putting a computer in my car. When I lived in Illinois I had a computer running fine in my previous car, but the heat is not nearly as bad.
