Default Thoughts on a Pioneer DEH-P9800BT or DEHP980BT

I am in the process of getting a head unit i really like the look of both of these and the performance looks very promising, just wanted to get some more opinions.

i have the 9800bt. the only difference between that and the 980 is i believe the 980 is "premier". however there are no actual differences between the two i believe. other than that i love the headunit and the bluetooth is easy to use. good control over audio features.

I almost got that but went with the 9885 instead. I just couldn't find anything to justify that extra money for the 9800.

Thumbs down Dissaponted

I have the 980 and I must say I am dissapointed.
First, I bought it for the BT feature. I have it on my Maxima and it is too cool.

OK, so I have to go through about a six step process on the head unit to connect the phone everytime I get in the car. It will not find my phone RAZR V3 when I get in the car even though they have been paired. Also can't transfer my address book. The connection breaks when you push send. Also the sound quality on the Phone microphone blows. At least that is what my wife says.

BT Audio: I bough an IPAQ Travel companion. Again I have to manully connect it each time I get in the car. Only this time I have to initiate the connection from the IPAQ. If I change inputs I have to re-connect the BT device.

Display: When I choose a screen theme. (I selected kinda a black carbon fibre to match the interior) it cycles back and forth from positive to negative image. Annoys the He!! out of me.

Volume: Not sensetive enough. Have to turn the **** multiple time to make very little difference. This is an issue because there is no MUTE on the unit. So if you don't use the remote you have to turn it off to mute.

I am also a little dissapointed in the tuner.

Too many weaknesses for the price

IMHO

hey bro in the settings you can turn up the audio volume. I have mine about 3/4 of the way up and it works fine. I will agree with the positive to negative pictures though that just pisses me off like at night when it gets bright then goes back to my reg. choice lol. I have the 7800 though no bluetooth and i think its great has a ton of controls.

Thanks for the tip on the volime. I have been so focused on the BT and display settings that I really haven't checked out the audio settings.

Yeah, it won't find my phone at all. I have to go into phone--> function --> scroll down to the phone---> press to connect----> wait for it to connect--> phone

The positive/negative thing is that lets say you select a wallpaper with a dark background (to match the interior of your Z) after 10 second or so the dispaly will change so that the dark area is bright and the bright area is dark in another 10 second it will change back. haven't benn able to find a setting to make it stop. Distracting at during the day, borderline dangerous at night.

Conclusion. Like a beautiful woman. Doesn't do a lot of things very well and very high maintenance.

Doesn't the premier series have higher pre-out voltage compared to the regular ones? Also, their warranty is longer, and I don't remember where I read this, but the premier was made somewhere else. I do not know if it still applies to the newer models, but in the older ones it did, I have a premier model, deh-750mp which is like, 5 years old, but it is still holding up strong.
