DIY Keys
Okay, not sure if this should go here, but here it goes. I will start but suggesting, do not do this mod. I saw 0 increase anywhere and it cost a lot.
What you will need:
Someone to drive you around
Time
Money
Lube
Ok, step one is go to work, lose your keys somewhere where no one will ever find them, including yourself. Then, do not realize that you have successfully lost them until the end of the shift. Step three is spend an exra 2 hours at work trying to find keys.
Wait until the next day and begin with this step. Call any nearby Nissan dealer so that you ca find out there is no way they can make a key or key fob without the car there. While on the phone with them, make sure parts dept has the parts you need, then transfer to service and schedule an appointment to get keys made. If you can be squeezed in that day, call tow truck to come get your Z. Wait for tow truck. (Just a side note, state farm insurance said the would cover this tow...fyi)
Now, advise tow truck where to take vehicle and follow/lead them there. This implies that you have someone to give you a ride. Most tow truck drivers will let you ride with them, but do that at your own risk. When you arrive at Nissan, advise them you are there and tell them how many key and key fobs you would like. My suggestion is that you buy the same number of fobs as keys. A key by itself is no good since the fob turns off the alarm. If you want a spare to unlock the doors, incase you some how lock yur keys inside, just go to a hardware store and get a plain key made. It'll unlock the doors, just won't start the car.
Go to lunch while you wait for product to be produced. Once dealer calls and tells you they are finished, return to Nissan. Remember, do not spend too much on lunch because this next part hurts. Remember to bring lube to this point. Walk to the sales counter and give them your last name, this person will give you a total. If you had one of each made, you may want to sit down first. If you had more than one, don't even ask. Just had over the credit card and begin to cry. If like me, you made the mistake of two keys and only one fob, make sure your credit card has room for a $275 sale on it.
The breakdown of this is about $95 for the fob, $60 for each key and a $40 programming fee. Told you brin the lube cause you ar about to take it up the @$$ and can't do anything about it except smile
Last step is thank girlfriend/friend for driving you around all day to get new keys.
Thanks for reading my write up and enjoy!

the worst part is...the programming fee is for about 1 seconds worth of work. When I took deliver of my Z, one of the fobs they gave me didn't work. i didn't realize til later. So, when I went to pick up my tags, I told them about it and they progrmmed it on the spot. basically, the guy went in the cockpit, held series of buttons (I assume some on the car and some on the fob) and done. I asked the guy...Is this something I could have done myself? He says..yeah, as long as you know what to do. it's just a matter of holding some buttons simultaneously. Needless to say, he didn't tell me exactly what buttons to press.
Locked my keys in my Z once. Walked over to the local Nissan, 2 miles away, gave them my VIN and let them photo copy my ID, they cut me a 5 dollar key that would open the door only. Walked 2 miles back and unlocked my car.
