i think the burning question is.. is there enough space where the standard sub goes to build an enclosure and still have the nessessary internal volume for the sub?

is it possible? yes, is it difficult to the point of being almost impossible to do right? yes.

and honetsly, you dont want it forward firing...the only person i have seen do that, pulled of an amazing feat, but i think he charged a few grand JUST for hte subbox housing dual 8w7s...

its osmeting i wont even come close to do hehe

Why would I not want the sub to fire forward?? I thought sub frequency was undirectional?? And I popped the panel covering the spot for factory sub and their is a ton of room back inside ?? I'm trying to keep as much hatch space as possible....

the wicked cas box is not even CLOSE to fitting a 8w7, the deepest sub it can fit, if i remmeber, is around 5.5" deep?

well, the reaosn why you dont want to fire it into the seat ist aht it has nothing to load off of before it hits the soft backside of the seat. a subwoofer performes really well when it has sometihng solid to bounce its output off of (called loading the sub)...if yo ujust fire a sub into an open space with nothing solid infront of it, you will notice greatly deminished output.

this is why for home audio subs, they usually fire it dowards so it loads off the floor, or if its not downward firing, they suggest you put it close to a wall or corner of a wall for it to load off of

bass is omnidirectional, but tahts not the issue here, its the loading plane

i like mine from ebay

i think it was around $100. it holds 2 10" subs. More bass than I need but I did not want to take up the whole space with just 1 speaker. I still have the side on the interior side behind the strut bar. The box acts as a nice divider and prevents all my stuff from sliding to the rear. Its easy to take out if I need the space.

i was thinkin of doin the same set-up for my Z, does any one kno if any1 makes a diff set up for a box for the Z.
I just don't want to close off the hatch that way.
i also want to keep as much room in the hatch as possible.
besides i don't want it to be that visible for the thieves

If I were to do it over again. I would have proably just put a nice sub behind the driver seat since I have an enthuiast model. It would be plenty of bass and I think I think you can get a replacement panel that holds a sub without going to a custom shop. My sounds are visible and I dont like it for certain situations. Now, I can set off car alarms with ease so I am able to have a little childish fun everynow and then.

i really didn't think that it would be a big job to mount a sub behind the driver seat. i mean the space is there and its works with a bose system, so why not work with another sub.

i was looking into these sony subs

"Sony's Slim Series subwoofers dish out powerful low-frequency performance, and their compact profile enables you to add bass to the tight confines of smaller vehicles. Find a suitable box or build a custom enclosure to fit your needs, and let Sony's advanced technology turn those areas behind or under your seats into premium bass outposts."

cuase its gonna sound like poop, pretty much like the stock bose sounds, its leaky, and the baffle the bose sub mounts to will rattle and buzz, and you will get barely any real low end, the space back there is huge and not sealked by any means.

that sony sub is also...not the greatest around, sony doenst make too many good car audio stuff any more unfortunately.

If you want to put one behind the seat you need to get in there and really seal it up. Dynamat should go around most of it and you can use some kind of sealant on the corners to make sure it is in there real good. Once you do that you might put something like a pillow in there to take up some of the space. The space is really large so don't worry about having to use a small sub. The thing you want to do is look for subs that specifically say that will work with free air enclosures.

the wicked cas box is agreat choice...

http://wickedcas.com/store/product_i...products_id=55

acutally right now the only prefab choice...and its downward firing design is definetly the way to go i have peronally intsalled more than a handful and they perform well..

though in a coupe, i still suggest a normal subbox of some sorta back behind the seat for ease of instlalation and better response.

if you dont want to loose any trunk space...but is willing to ditch the spare...you can always do someting like this :

I am just not seeing how it works...the c.a.s box. does it take the place of the stock cover as well? or does it slip back behind the stock cover and the stock cover slides back in place? it has been a long day.....lol

think of it as a duplicate of the PASSENGER side glovebox, but closed on the front, and with a hole cut on the downward facing side, so it slides in like the glovebox, with the sub firing downward
