Which Brand/Model speakers do you recommend?
I'm not looking for an expensive system. I have a set of kicker comps subs and kicker amp that I will be running from my last car and I have never really had much experience with mids/highs. I would like to spend around a couple hundred for both 6.5 and 6x9s. Which brands should I consider and which Model do you recommend. Thanks!
do you mean you wanna spend a coupla hundred bucks for both the mid and highs? or 200 bucks for each? my recommendation is to focus your money on your front speakres, and just leave the rear stock...the end result will be much better sound.
i also suggest doing someting other than the stock location int he front, as it really doesnt sound very good, door pods and kicks makes a dramatic difference

the DLS MS6 at the similar pricae range is not a bad alternative at all

oh i didn't realize...are they replacing them with something?
that seems to be the question of the day over on icix
but for now, the MS6 seems a logical replacement and ED does carry it
6800 maybe out sometime in the near future

those arent too shabby, but for that price range, you arent going to get a lot of difference between the two...
if you want, i do have a set of polk DB6500 6.5" comp set, brand new in box i got in trade, for sale for 110 shipped, a step above the pioneers
and then just what ever you want for the rear

I like petite blonds and brunettes.
How about having a listen to a pair of speakers before you buy them?
Shocking advice. I went out and listened to the biggest five or six names in speakers and found the brand that I liked best within my budget by bringing my CD to the car stereo store and listening to the speakers. It's hard to do side-by-side comparisons so I took my time and didn't rush. I didn't listen to every speaker made knowing that at some budget point it's just silly. I also often use the V6 power supply in the front of the car and the +80 dB worth of "noise" that it puts out masks a WHOLE BUNCH of sound quality.
I've got a nice big listening room in my home for critical listening.
The best thing to do is burn yourself a CD full of some of your typical .WAV files (not MP3s please) and then take the sample disk to a retailer who has a proper speaker display. Thank the nice salesperson for their chatter and then ask them to go away. Check the settings on the head end to make sure something isn't tweaked (bass/treble) and then do some critical judgments. Close your eyes and listen carefully to the quality of the sound. Depending on the quality of the music's producer you'll get better or worse quality but by picking familiar music you ought to know what the song sounds like best. Know that once installed in the car they'll sound a bit different.
When I bought my first home speakers +25 years ago I made arrangements with the stores' managers to come in early before the store opened or stayed late after closing hours for more critical listening. Speakers are 99% of the music's sound quality and are that important in the system. It used to be that the record player's cartridge (needle) was also that important ... now it's a laser beam so not to worry.
They're your ears and it's your music.
