n00b alarm question :)
just picked up my 350z this morning!
"hello"
well just curious, do any 350z models come w/o (without) factory alarm? the dealer just handed me the key's and i noticed... no alarm. I do have a blinking red light on my dash visible from the outside.
just curious
anyhoo, just got my Z today-- hope to meet lots of new people on here!

All Z's come with factory alarm.. However it is junk. Easily disconnected and only goes off when the doors are opened. No impact sensor. IMO a aftermarket alarm should be priority. My clifford 50.5x has a 1 mile radius and impact sensor which alerts me whenever something happens to the car. also a immobilizer where if the alarm goes off and isn't turned off with the remote, the car will not start even with the actual key. Also because my alarm has a lcd screen, the icon always shows whether the car is locked or not.
The shortcomings of the OEM alarm can be fixed rather cheaply.
You can disconnect the wire that allows it to be bypassed and you can add a single stage shock sensor for $20.
Here is a thread on how to eliminate the biggest security loop hole:

There are several threads on adding a shock sensor.

Well I searched and it seems that all the posts showing how to install an aftermarket DEI shock sensor don't have active links anymore. Are there intructions on how to do this? Also, can one install a glass break sensor instead of the shock sensor? Thanks for the help
It's not that difficult. The thoery is to use the (-) trigger output of the sensor and diode isolate it with either your hood pin wire or your trunk pin wire. This way, whenever the sensor is tripped it sends a (-) signal to the car that makes the car think one of its zones have been tripped, thus setting off the alarm. The major disadvantage here is that you don't get the 'warn away' stage, but who really wants a 'warn away' stage if someone is messing with your car?
You can do this with pretty much any sensor that has a digital (on/off) output. You may need some extra parts to make the output of the sensor work, as the end output MUST be a (-) output. You will also need to diode isolate each sensor so that feedback isn't an issue.

It changes from year to year. You're best bet would be to buy the manual for your specific year for $20 from Nissans tech site.
The wire should run to the BCM under the drivers side dash board.
