Default Noise from the Amplifier?

I just installed some amps last night and when I turned them on, there is a very high-pitched noise coming from the amplifiers. The noise is not coming from any speakers (they are not hooked up).

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this or have experience with this?

Background Info: The amps are two JL 300/2 mounted in the stock sub location behind the driver's seat. The amp rack is MDF board (no carpet) and is a two level design.

Change the point where they are grounded, see if that helps , but also have speakers hooked up whenever you turn on an amp.

I have a 300/4 mounted behind the drivers seat and you can hear a whine from the amp whens on. But the sound doesn't come from the speakers its from the actual amp. To me it just sounds normal, like theres power running through. I can't hear it unless its silent.

Will not having speakers hooked to the amp possibly damage the amp? I am not going to get the new speakers installed for a couple days.

Would changing the ground fix this issue? This doesnt seem like a normal "noise issue" since its not reproducing noise in the wiring at the speakers. It seems like this is being produced by the actual electrical operation of the amplifier.

I grounded the amps using a coupe bolt locations that the stock sub mounting metal plate used. I am not totally sure this is the best ground though. I did take the paint off with a drummel though.

I wouldnt be able to hear it over any music playing. Since my system is not complete I can hear it. It is still load enough to be pretty annoying and its high frequency give me a headache.

Ive had amps before and never experienced this noise from the amp.

So having no speakers hooked up to your amp results in what impedence?

That is a good question, when you put it that way it sounds like it should be infinite, however, the user manuals typically state to ensure a load is on the amp before powering up, and that impedence below X can damage the amp or cause a fault circut to activate.
