well i have put it off long enough. time for my Z to turn into more of a show car than a driver. i am going to swap out my old competition stereo from my other car and start the long install into my Z.
system goes as follows
-front staging (all in sealed enclosures)
2-mbquart tweet
2-" 4"
2- " 6.5"

- rear fill
2- mbquart 4's

- possible front sub fill with a couple 8's in the door front, sealed ofcourse.

-bumps in the trunks!
2 fosgate 10's
2 fosgate 12's
1 15" passive radiator to use in the combined airspace 12" box

i have a separate amp for each pair of speakers and all the ways to control frequencies to them. about 2300 watts at 4ohm of nakamichi, zapco, mps series phoenix gold etc. audio control for the processors.
i have 4 farads worth of caps for the system. my question is finally, is anyone running dual batteries, or higheroutput alternators to power their systems?
crazy enough this sytem is getting pulled from my convert vette and it all fit with nothing visible in the car!! i do remeber though that i could drain a battery in about 20-30 seconds if not faster with this system though if the car was not running. i hate the dimming electrical system with each bass hit.

I would run something like a 300-350 amp alternator and a 2 deep cell batteries with a system like that. Also look into the 25 Farad capacitors like this Pyle one that is designed to look like a car battery

anyone know the output of the stock Z alt? i know the vette was 100amp, and rarely clipped the amps on full tilt. didn't find any bigger ones for the Z, is there someone who could rebuild the stock one for more output?

there is a place on the east coast called excessive amperage that rebuilds alternators for competition cars. I can get their info next week if you would like.

A stock alternator is 110 amps

I have got a 240 amps alternator that is from excessive amperage that I purchased from SGP Racing I had them also powdercoat it blue...

most of the equipment is about 5-6 years old, but was top of the line at the time (all amps and processors are s/n ratio of 100-110) and it all works perfectly. not going for stereo sound-offs or anything with the Z, but selling the vette and will have all this audio stuff hanging around that won't cost me anything but new wiring and my time to put it in. cheap, just like i like it! hahaha

do not remember the exact model of any of them.
all are 4ohm
all are dual voice coil/ dont remember my current wiring if i have them at 4ohm or 2 (every amp i have will safely and effieceintly run at 1ohm and the mps phoenix at .25ohm, but most will only see 4ohm load)

i have a separate amp for each pair of subs (and every other pair of speakers). the passive rad 15" works perfect in a single airspace with the 2-12"s. i know, i know, the passive resonates at a certain frequency making a huge spike in that range, but it is coming out of a convertible that needed a big boost to give good bass with the top down. and it worked like a friggin gem and way easier than trying to port the box correctly. it made the bass sound a little muddy, but again, my days of stereo comps is over (probably anyways, lol) being 12's they still hit somewhat hard, but hoping the 10's will cover it over a little. i will be running 8"s sealed in the door front's and a delay to the rear to move the bass forward abit. it will still overpower to the rear, but oh well. i never run speakers free-air anymore so i will still have a good full range for the front staging.

Call Ohio Generator. Bam Bam just had his upgraded and this is where we got it. Call them, tell them your requirements and specs and any possible future plans you may have that will require additional power. They will spec it out and do a custom build for you in a factory housing to ensure proper fitment. You will also recieve a spec sheet as well. They run around $600.

or are you trying to choose the best option from the subs you have

here is the install of my 10's right now

there is bairily any trunk space taken up at all with them. i will utilize my spare tire airspace and the mostly unuseable area on the very left and right of the rear (with interior panels removed) it will be plenty of airspace for the 2-12's and the 15" passive radiator is only about 1.5" thick. i only need enough airspace for 2-12's. i have ways of finding room where there is none and have a gameplan to be able to have all of that equipment and keep more than half of my trunk.

Sweet. I've been thinking of an upgrade also. The OEM alternator seems to keep up ok with my system, but does fluctuated between 14-12vdc when power demand is at it's highest.

If anything, I might benefit from an additional Yellow top, ontop of the one I already have. Reason being is because I play the system quite often at car shows and get tired of starting the vehicle to maintain ample voltage. Only problem I'd have with another battery is finding a place to stick it. About the only place I have left is inside the passenger side compartment.

Anyone have opinions on this?
